When You Shake the Nations, Fill Your House With Glory
"And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts." - Haggai 2:7

O LORD of hosts, the One who rules over heaven and earth, the One whose counsel stands and whose word cannot be broken, we come before Thee in reverence and holy fear. Thou art not a distant God, nor an uncertain God, but the living God who speaks and acts in power. We anchor our hearts in Thy promise, as it is written: “And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.” Lord, we receive this word with trembling and with hope, asking Thee to make it living and active in our time, in our lives, and in the midst of Thy people.
Father, when Thou sayest, “I will shake all nations,” we confess that we have often been shaken by what we see—by rumors, conflicts, changes, and uncertainties that unsettle our minds and weary our souls. Yet we acknowledge that Thy shaking is not meaningless chaos; it is the purposeful movement of the Almighty. We ask Thee to shake what must be shaken in us first. Shake loose every false foundation: pride that resists repentance, fear that refuses trust, compromise that dulls holiness, and distractions that steal devotion. Shake our hearts until what remains is true worship, steadfast faith, and obedience that does not depend on comfort. Let every idol lose its grip. Let every secret sin be exposed and surrendered. Let every stubborn habit that keeps us from Thee be broken by Thy merciful hand.
Lord of hosts, we pray for the nations of the earth. We do not presume to understand all Thy ways, but we know Thou art righteous in all Thy works. As Thou shakest all nations, grant leaders humility, grant peoples discernment, and grant the weary a place of refuge. Where there is oppression, let justice rise. Where there is violence, command peace. Where there is confusion, let truth be honored. Where hearts are hardened, send conviction. Where hope is crushed, breathe courage. We ask Thee to use even trembling times to awaken a longing for what cannot be found in power, wealth, or human strength.
Thou hast said, “and the desire of all nations shall come.” Lord, we confess that the deepest desire of every nation and every soul is not merely stability, prosperity, or applause, but the presence of the One who gives life and meaning. Put into our hearts a holy desire—an appetite for Thy righteousness, a thirst for Thy presence, and a hunger for Thy word. Let the desire of our homes be Thee. Let the desire of our churches be Thee. Let the desire of our communities be Thee. Remove shallow cravings that leave us empty, and replace them with a longing that draws us nearer to Thy will.
And now, O God, we plead the final promise of Thy word: “and I will fill this house with glory.” LORD, fill Thy house with glory again. Fill the place where Thy people gather with reverence, repentance, and joy. Let worship be pure and not performed. Let prayer be fervent and not forgotten. Let preaching be faithful and not diluted. Let love be sincere and not selective. Let the weak be strengthened, the broken be healed, and the wandering be restored. Fill Thy house with the glory of holiness, the glory of unity, the glory of truth, and the glory of Thy manifest presence.
Yet, Lord, we also ask Thee to fill the house of our hearts with glory. Make us temples fit for Thy dwelling. Cleanse our thoughts, purify our motives, and order our desires. Let our words carry grace. Let our actions reflect Thy character. Let our private life match our public confession. Where we have been empty, fill us. Where we have been lukewarm, ignite us. Where we have been weary, renew us. Where we have been divided, make us whole.
O LORD of hosts, keep us steady when the shaking comes. Teach us to interpret the tremors of the world not as the end of hope, but as the summons of heaven. Let our eyes be lifted above the noise of the nations to the throne of the Almighty. Establish Thy people in courage, patience, and faithfulness. And as Thou hast spoken, so do: “And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.” We believe Thee, we trust Thee, and we wait for the fullness of Thy promise, giving Thee honor, and worship, and praise. Amen.
