A Prayer for Divine Wisdom and Understanding
"And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?" - Genesis 44:15

O Gracious and Eternal Father,
As I bow before Your holy presence, I am reminded of the poignant words of Joseph, spoken in Genesis 44:15: "And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?" Lord, as I reflect upon the weight of this moment, I seek Your wisdom and understanding to grasp the lessons embedded in these sacred verses.
Joseph, a man of great trials and tribulations, stands before his brothers not only as a figure of authority but also as one endowed with the gift of discernment. O Lord, I thank You for the gifts You bestow upon Your faithful servants. Just as Joseph had clarity and insight into the hearts of men, I humbly ask that You grant me a spirit of wisdom that can perceive the hidden motives and intentions around me. Help me to see beyond mere appearances, to understand the depth of situations, and to respond with grace and truth.
Despite the betrayal he faced, Joseph did not seek vengeance but rather sought understanding. Teach me, O Lord, to respond with a heart that desires reconciliation rather than retribution. Just as Joseph confronted his brothers with a measure of righteous inquiry, let me never shy away from difficult conversations but approach them desiring the truth. May my tongue be seasoned with wisdom, and my heart remain open to hear and to forgive.
Lord, when I encounter moments of confusion or deception, remind me of Joseph’s confidence in his divine gift. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your guidance. When I ask questions in my heart or outwardly, let those inquiries lead me closer to truth, and let my understanding deepen with each revelation. May I always learn to discern Your voice amidst the noise of the world.
I pray for a heart that reflects Your love and mercy. Let me be like Joseph, willing to embrace those who have wronged me, so that I may lead them toward repentance and restoration. We all have sinned and fallen short of Your glory, Father; may I be an agent of redemption in the lives of others.
As Joseph did not hold onto bitterness but took action rooted in love, strengthen me to act with compassion and grace. There are many around me who are struggling with guilt and shame. Open my eyes to see their plight, and help me to extend Your love and mercy to them, just as You have done for me. May I embody the teachings of Christ to love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me.
Father, I also recognize the profound role intuition and insight play in our relationships and interpersonal dynamics. Help me to discern the spiritual undertones in all interactions. As Joseph asked, "Wot ye not?" let me also learn to ask probing questions that lead to deeper understanding and healing. Help me to encourage those I encounter to reflect on their actions and consider the ramifications they carry.
As I meditate on Joseph’s story, I am moved by the grace that allowed him to forgive. Lord, let forgiveness bloom in my heart as I navigate through my own circumstances, extending it to those who need it the most. Let me not carry the burdens of the past into my present relationships, but instead embrace the fresh start You offer.
In Your infinite wisdom, guide my footsteps, O Lord. As I seek You daily, may I grow in my ability to understand, forgive, and love, empowered by the same spirit that led Joseph to greatness and nobility in character.
In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Redeemer, I pray. Amen.
