A Prayer of Expectation and Humility
"And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground," - Genesis 18:2

O Heavenly Father,
In this sacred moment, I come before You with a heart filled with wonder and anticipation. Your Word in Genesis 18:2 speaks volumes about the humility, openness, and reverence Abraham displayed when he encountered the divine plan. "And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground." Lord, as I reflect upon this scripture, I, too, desire to lift my eyes and behold the wonders that lie before me.
Abraham, deemed a friend of God, exemplified a spirit of expectation as he gazed into the horizon. He did not merely look but lifted his eyes, engaging his heart in search of Your presence. Lord, teach me to seek You with such fervent expectation! In the hustle and bustle of life, may I not merely glance at the happenings around me but lift my eyes to see Your divine workings in my life. Help me to cultivate a heart that is ever-watchful, alert to the heavenly encounters You orchestrate and the blessings You bestow.
The three men who visited Abraham were messengers of the Lord, bearing news that would change his life forever. Father, I pray that You grant me discernment to recognize the moments of divine visitation in my own life. Open my eyes so that I may see the opportunities for grace and mercy that You place before me—moments where You might be calling me to something greater, something transformative.
In Your infinite wisdom, remind me that often You choose the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary. Abraham did not hesitate to run towards these unfamiliar visitors; instead, he embraced them with humility. Lord, may my heart reflect that same posture of humility. Teach me to bow before You in recognition of Your sovereignty and grace. Help me to honor and respect those You send my way, be it a kind stranger, a friend in need, or even a challenge that comes my way. For in serving others, I serve You.
Running towards Your divine purpose, as Abraham did, is often an act of faith. I confess that there are times when I hesitate—afraid of the unknown or intimidated by the magnitude of the task at hand. Yet, as I submit to Your calling, I pray You would empower me with boldness. Grant me the courage to pursue the call You have placed upon my life, whether it seems grand or humble, easy or challenging.
O Lord, I bow myself toward the ground just as Abraham did; I surrender my will to Your greater design. In humility, I recognize my limitations and seek Your strength to fulfill the assignments You’ve set before me. As I bow in submission, remind me that Your ways are higher than my ways, and Your thoughts greater than my thoughts. May I find solace in knowing that You are directing my steps, guiding me through every challenge and victory.
As I conclude this prayer, Father, I ask for the grace to remain alert, to keep my eyes lifted high and my heart receptive to Your guiding hand. Each encounter, each circumstance, each moment is laced with Your presence. May I never fail to greet the divine with the same fervor and reverence as Abraham, being both aware of Your greatness and humble in my approach.
In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray and believe,
Amen.
