A Prayer for Freedom from the Works of the Flesh

"Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." - Galatians 5:21

"Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." - Galatians 5:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I am deeply aware of the weight of Your Word, and specifically, the powerful reminder found in Galatians 5:21. In Your wisdom, You have cautioned us through the Apostle Paul, saying, "Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Lord, I humbly seek Your presence and guidance, recognizing the gravity of these words and the peril that lies in ignoring them.

I confess, O Lord, that there are times when the temptations of this world tug at my heart, leading me to envy the possessions and successes of others. I recognize that envy is a destructive force that can poison my spirit and blind me to the blessings You have bestowed upon my life. Help me, Almighty God, to cultivate a heart of gratitude and contentment. Teach me to rejoice in the triumphs of others rather than succumb to jealousy. Let me remember that we are all Your children and that there is enough love, grace, and provision in Your kingdom for each one of us.

Gracious Father, I also come before You to acknowledge the seriousness of hatred and anger that can lead to violence and even murder. I pray earnestly for a heart that reflects Your love and compassion, one that is willing to forgive and release any grudges I may harbor. Soften my heart, Lord, and help me to see others through Your eyes. Help me to promote peace and reconciliation rather than conflict and strife. Let me be an instrument of Your love, reaching out to others with kindness and understanding.

I thank You, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who empowers me to overcome the desires of the flesh. I ask that You fill me with the Spirit's wisdom and strength to resist the allure of drunkenness and revelries that lead me away from You. Lord, let me find my joy and fulfillment in Your presence, rather than in fleeting pleasures that promise satisfaction but only leave me hungry for more. Remind me constantly that true joy is found in You alone, and allow me to lead a life that reflects Your glory.

O Lord, I desire to walk in the Spirit and to bear the fruit that Your Word promises. Grant me self-control, patience, and love, so that I may flee from the works of the flesh and shine brightly in a world that often embraces darkness. Help me to be vigilant and discerning, recognizing the dangers of allowing envy and anger to take root in my heart. Let me guard my thoughts and actions, seeking to align them with Your will rather than the temptations that surround me.

Above all, I ask that You help me to focus on the inheritance that awaits me in Your kingdom. Remind me always that my choices have eternal consequences, and stir in my spirit a longing for each day to reflect Your glory. Lord, keep me steadfast and determined to live a life that is pleasing in Your sight, so that I may truly inherit the promises You have made to those who love You.

In closing, I thank You for Your mercy and grace that forgive my past transgressions and for the hope of a future filled with Your righteousness. May my life increasingly reflect the beauty of Your character, as I strive to walk away from the entanglements of fleshly desires and step into the fullness of Your joy and peace. May I, through Your strength, represent the light of Christ in a world shadowed by sin.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
