A Prayer of Confession and Restoration

"O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this." - Ezra 9:15

"O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this." - Ezra 9:{verse.verse_number}

O most gracious and merciful Lord, God of Israel,

As I come before You today, I am reminded of the words of Your servant Ezra, who declared, "O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this." (Ezra 9:15 KJV). In this profound acknowledgment, I recognize not only Your righteousness but also the depths of my own shortcomings and the transgressions that weigh heavily upon my heart.

Lord, You are the Creator of heaven and earth, the One who knows every thought before it is formed in my mind, and every deed before it is done. Your righteousness fills the heavens, and Your justice flows like a river. You are the light that dispels our darkness, and even in our most desperate moments, Your truth stands firm. I praise Your holy name for the mercies that are new every morning, and I thank You for the grace that meets me at every moment of need.

As I reflect on Ezra's desperate plea, I am struck by the weight of my own sins—those acts of rebellion, those words spoken in haste, those opportunities to love that I have missed, and those moments of doubt when I turned my back on Your promises. I stand before You, Lord, stripped of pretense, fully aware that without Your mercy I cannot stand at all. I have trespassed against you, O God, with both my heart and my actions, and I ask for Your forgiveness.

In this moment of contrition, I lay before You the burdens of my transgressions. I confess that I have often chosen the path of self rather than the path of righteousness. I have allowed pride to overshadow humility, and I have let bitterness taint my spirit. I am deeply aware that my sins caused a separation between us and tarnished the beauty of the relationship that You desire for me to share with You. Yet, Lord, despite my unworthiness, I am comforted by Your promise to forgive and restore all who seek You with a repentant heart.

Heavenly Father, I beseech You to look upon my heart. See the humility and sorrow that cloak my spirit, as I acknowledge my failings. Remind me, O Lord, that even when I stumble, Your love remains steadfast. Your righteousness does not waver, and Your arms are always open to receive me back into fellowship with You. Please cleanse my heart with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, enabling me to stand in Your presence without fear.

As I seek Your face, I commit my life anew to following in Your ways. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I might produce the fruit that glorifies You. Strengthen me in my resolve to turn from sin and to walk in obedience. May I be a vessel of honor, reflecting Your love and righteousness to a world in need of Your grace.

Lord, help me to remember that as I navigate through life, I am never without hope, for I am called to a future that is redeemed and restored by Your mighty hand. Even amidst my failings, You offer salvation and renewal. I long to be a testament to that grace in the lives of those around me.

Therefore, I ask You, compassionate Father, to draw near to me as I draw near to You. Shelter me under Your wings and guide me in Your truth. May my life be a continual expression of gratitude for Your forgiveness, and may I carry the light of Your righteousness into every corner of my life.

In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
