A Prayer of Humble Fasting and Seeking God’s Favor
"So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us." - Ezra 8:23

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the beautiful words found in Ezra 8:23, which say, "So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us." Lord, I approach Your throne of grace with a heart filled with gratitude and surrender. I recognize that true strength and wisdom come from Your presence alone, and I seek to align my will with Yours through the act of fasting and prayer.
In moments of fasting, I lay aside my earthly desires and distractions, drawing nearer to You in humility. I confess that too often I have relied on my own understanding and abilities, losing sight of the divine guidance You are willing to provide. As I fast, I ask that You help me to empty myself of pride and self-sufficiency, recognizing that I am nothing without You. Grant me the grace to seek Your face wholeheartedly, as I desire to approach You not merely with requests, but with a spirit that earnestly desires to know You more deeply.
Father, just as Ezra and his companions fasted for the journey ahead, I come before You with my own burdens and needs. I lift up the intentions that weigh heavily on my heart, knowing that You are attentive to the cries of Your children. I beseech You to hear my prayers, to consider my requests as I am reminded that You are a God who is intimately involved in every detail of my life. I cast my cares on You, trusting that You will provide, protect, and guide me in accordance with Your perfect will.
Lord, I specifically seek Your favor and direction in the areas of my life where I feel lost or uncertain. I pray for wisdom that transcends my understanding, for clarity when I am confused, and for peace that surpasses all my fears. Just as Ezra sought you for favor and guidance, let me not be afraid to ask You for the direction I need. Let me approach You with faith, knowing You promise to be found by those who diligently seek You.
I also pray for the community around me. For my family, friends, and those in my church, may our collective prayers be as one. Let our hearts unite in fervent supplication, that together we may fast and beseech You for the needs of our community and the world. Empower us with compassion as we seek to uplift each other in prayer and action. May we find together that You are indeed a God who listens and a God who responds.
As I engage in this spiritual discipline of fasting, let it be a time of renewal in Your spirit. Strengthen my resolve to lay aside distractions. I pray for self-discipline and a spirit of perseverance to continue seeking Your heart, even when it feels challenging or the answers seem delayed. May fasting create in me a more profound longing for Your word, a deeper yearning for Your presence.
Lord, amidst my seeking, grant me a surrendered heart. Help me to be sensitive to Your voice and obedient to Your instructions. Allow this fast to not only bring about a transformation in my life, but let it inspire those around me, leading them to experience Your goodness, mercy, and grace.
In the end, I trust in Your sovereignty and Your plans for my life. I am reassured knowing that just as You were intreated of Ezra and his companions, You also hear me and You draw near to those who are humble and contrite in spirit.
Thank You for the gift of prayer and for the promise that You are always near. I commit my fast to You, with faith that You will respond in ways that are beyond my comprehension.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
