A Prayer of Repentance and Restoration
"Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever." - Ezekiel 43:9

O Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, the One who sits enthroned on high, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging both Your sovereign might and our need for repentance. As we reflect on Your word in Ezekiel 43:9, "Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever," we understand the depth of our transgressions and the importance of turning our hearts back to You.
Father, we confess that we have often strayed from Your perfect path, entangled in the snares of sin and the flickering lights of worldly desires. Like the people of Israel, we have allowed distractions and false idols to take Your rightful place in our hearts. We recognize that our obedience is key to experiencing your presence, and we strive to strip away all that is not of You.
Lord, we ask for Your mercy today. Cleanse us from our iniquities and remove every hindrance that keeps us from drawing near to You. We desire to put away our whoredom—those disordered affections that lead us away from You. Help us to recognize and reject every form of idolatry in our lives. Each selfish desire that clouds our vision of Your holy face must be uprooted, for we long to dwell in Your presence.
In Your grace, lead us to seek out the shadows of our hearts, and reveal to us the carcasses of our former kings—those pursuits and ambitions that have led us astray. Help us to see that no achievement, no popularity, no fleeting satisfaction can compare to the joy of being in Your presence. Give us strength to cast aside these burdens that weigh heavy on our souls.
Heavenly Father, we pray for a spirit of repentance to wash over us. Ignite within us a passion to return to You, perhaps like the prodigal son who recognized his folly and sought the refuge of his father’s house. May we learn from our past mistakes and fully embrace a life that honors You.
Lord, we claim the promise of Your presence. You say that You will dwell in the midst of those who turn back to You, and we long for that intimacy. What comfort it is to know that You are ever ready to welcome us back, arms wide open, eager to restore us to the family of faith. Help us to remember that true restoration comes only through a sincere heart that is committed to abandoning sin.
As we put away the remnants of our past, let our hearts be filled with the fruits of Your Spirit. Let us walk in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. May we become vessels of Your grace, extending forgiveness as widely as we have received it, reflecting Your character to a broken world.
God, we also pray for our communities and nations. May their hearts turn to You, and may they see the need to put away wickedness and everything that stands in opposition to Your will. We ask that revival break out in the hearts of many, igniting a desire for holiness and a deep longing for Your presence that is unshakeable and unwavering.
As we walk daily with You, let us feel Your presence so palpably that we can’t help but testify of Your goodness. We pray that through our changed lives, others will come to know You and recognize the beauty of dwelling in Your midst.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray, Amen.
