A Prayer of Remembrance and Repentance
"And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood." - Ezekiel 16:22

Heavenly Father,
As I come before you today, I am deeply aware of the profound truth contained within the words of Ezekiel 16:22. “And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.” Lord, this verse speaks to the heart of human nature and the propensity for forgetfulness when it comes to the depths from which we have been saved.
I want to take a moment, dear God, to reflect on the days of my youth — those times before Your love and grace washed over me. I was indeed bare and vulnerable, clothed only in my sin and shame, with no covering but the frail attempt to mask my shortcomings. I remember those days, Father, when I sought fulfillment in the world’s temptations, far from Your embrace.
As I acknowledge the abominations of my heart, I confess that too often, I forget the struggles that shaped me and the mercy You extended to pull me from the pit. Forgive me, Lord, for turning my back on the lessons learned through pain, and for neglecting the memories of how You stood by me in my darkest moments. You were there, even when I was in my blood, feeling lost and unworthy, yet You were willing to take me as I was.
In Your eternal wisdom, You knew that I would stray, but You also knew my name and my potential. Thank You for not holding my past against me, but for instead using it as a canvas to paint a story of redemption. May I never overlook the journey You have guided me through, for each step — every stumble — has led me closer to You.
Oh Lord, I ask for a spirit of remembrance as I pray. Help me to always recognize the many times You have intervened in my life, to recall the love You poured out even when I was ensnared by my own choices. Let not my heart grow cold or my spirit grow complacent, but instead, fill me with a holy desire to cling to You, to hold on to the truths that have set me free.
As I reflect on my past, I also see the darkness that still lingers in our world — the abominations that plague the lives of many. Help me not to judge them, Lord, but to extend the same grace to others that You have shown to me. Let my heart break for those who are wandering, naked and polluted, in their own blood, moving from one false satisfaction to another without ever knowing Your deep love.
May my life be a testament to Your transformative power. I pray for the wisdom to guide others back to their own memories of innocence and purity, to remind them of the hope found in You, even amidst darkness. Use me as an instrument of Your peace, Lord, to share the good news of Your grace and the possibility of renewal.
Help me to turn my memories into prayers; every painful remembrance into a plea for healing. Lord, as I navigate through this life, may I always be aware of the depths from which I have come and the heights to which You have called me. Keep my eyes focused on You, my heart aligned with Your will, so that I may not become entangled again in old patterns but instead embrace the new creation that I am in Christ Jesus.
In all things, Father, I seek to remember, to live in the present with gratitude, and to hope for the future through the lens of Your unending love. Thank You for never forgetting me, even in my waywardness. I bless Your holy name.
In Jesus’ precious name, I pray,
Amen.
