A Prayer for Discernment and Truth
"Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD." - Ezekiel 13:8

Heavenly Father,
I come before You this day with a heart filled with reverence and humility, recognizing Your sovereignty and the truth of Your Word. In Ezekiel 13:8, You declare, "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD." Lord, this verse resonates deeply within me, reminding me of the weight of my words and the focus of my vision. I seek to understand the implications of speaking vanity and recognizing lies, for I know that these actions can lead me far from Your will.
O God, help me to discern between truth and falsehood in this world filled with noise and distraction. I ask that You instill in me the spirit of wisdom that I might not only seek the truth but also speak it. The lies that permeate every corner of life can easily ensnare even the most diligent of hearts. Strengthen me, Father, to shun these untruths and to seek Your wisdom in all matters, consulting Your Scriptures for guidance in every step I take.
Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). May it guide me like a shepherd leading his sheep to safer pastures. I yearn to be rooted in Your truth, Lord, to be a vessel of Your love and righteousness. Forgive me, I pray, for the times I have allowed vanity to slip into my thoughts or speech. Help me to remember that every word holds power, and may I use that power to glorify Your name. Remind me to fill my heart and my conversations with edifying and wholesome messages, words that uplift and encourage rather than tear down and deceive.
Father, I confess that the allure of vanity often leads to a false sense of security. In the pursuit of self-image, I can easily overlook my obligations to reflect Your grace and truth. Teach me to chase after humility and sincerity, recognizing that being true to myself means being true to You. I long to embody authenticity in my thoughts, my words, and my actions, radiating Your love and guiding others towards You.
In these trying times, I see so much division and conflict ignited by the speeches that speak lies and deception. I intercede for our world, for our communities, and for the leaders who ought to shepherd us with truth and integrity. Protect them from falling into the traps of vanity and falsehood. Grant them a deep hunger for Your wisdom that they may lead by principles drawn from the certainty of Your Word.
Lord, as the prophet Ezekiel warned, we do not wish to find ourselves on the wrong side of Your judgment, crying out, "Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name?" (Matthew 7:22) I pray that You soften our hearts, making us willing to hear Your voice, to embrace correction, and to receive the chastisement of love when we veer from Your path. Help us to understand that Your warnings are blessings cloaked in protection, meant to draw us back to You.
May Your Spirit fill our hearts with a fervent desire to pursue truth in all aspects of life. We reject the voices of vanity that lead to disillusionment and despair. Instead, we cling to Your promises and the enduring truth that only You can provide. As we navigate through the challenges and trials of life, may we hold fast to our faith, encouraging one another to seek what is good, noble, and right.
Pour out Your grace upon us, O Lord, that we may not only hear Your words but also live them out in our lives. May we stand firm against the tide of falsehood and vanity that seeks to undermine our faith. We thank You for Your unerring presence in our lives, and we trust that You will keep us anchored in Your truth forevermore.
In the name of Jesus, the Truth incarnate, I pray,
Amen.
