Prayer for Devotion to the One True God
"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." - Exodus 20:3

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts laid bare, acknowledging Your greatness and the profound truth of Your Word. In Exodus 20:3, You have declared, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Lord, we recognize this as more than just a commandment; it is an invitation to a deeper relationship with You, the one true God, the Creator of the universe, the Author of our souls.
As we meditate on this scripture, we ask for Your help in examining our hearts. Grant us the clarity to discern the idols that creep into our lives, the distractions that pull our affections away from You. Whether they be material possessions, relationships, ambitions, or even fears—help us identify anything that we may have placed before You. We confess that at times, we allow these distractions to take precedence, to overshadow our love and devotion to You. Forgive us, Father, for the moments we have prioritized other gods over our relationship with You.
Lord, in a world filled with competing voices and alluring distractions, we seek to place You at the forefront of our lives. We desire to have no other gods before You. Teach us what it means to worship You alone, and to seek Your Kingdom above all else. Ignite in us a passion for Your Word, so that daily we may grow in understanding and knowledge of Your will. Allow Your truth to permeate our hearts and minds, so that every decision we make reflects our commitment to You.
Help us cultivate a lifestyle of worship, where every action, every thought, and every word serves as an offering unto You. May we not just speak Your name, but live in such a way that our lives declare Your sovereignty, Your majesty, and Your love. We desire to be a city on a hill, shining Your light into the darkness of this world.
Lord, protect us from the temptation to construct our own idols, whether they be of our own making or by succumbing to societal pressures. Grant us the strength to stand firm in our belief, even when the world invites us to compromise our values. Let us not conform to the patterns of this world but instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so we can discern what is Your good and pleasing and perfect will.
We pray for our families, friends, and communities. Help us guide them towards a true understanding of who You are. May our conversations spark curiosity about Your nature and resurrect a desire to seek You above all else. Give us the wisdom and courage to lead by example, demonstrating that a life fully devoted to You is the richest and most fulfilling life one can lead.
Father, we also intercede for those who are lost, who may not yet know the depths of Your love and Your sufficiency in all areas of life. Break down the walls of misunderstanding and reveal Yourself to them in ways that draw them closer to You. Let them see the joy and peace that come from yielding to Your lordship and having no other gods before You.
As we embark on this journey of deeper devotion, we ask for Your Holy Spirit to continually remind us of the truth of Your command. Instill in us a sense of longing to dwell in Your presence and to turn our hearts towards You in all that we do.
Lord, we thank You for the promise that when we seek You with all our hearts, we will find You. May our lives be a testament to Your faithfulness and glory. We commit to You, our one true God, and declare that we shall have no other gods before You.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray,
Amen.
