A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
"¶ Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:" - Esther 1:13

O Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts humble and open, seeking Your divine wisdom and understanding, much like the wise men who stood before King Ahasuerus, as recorded in Esther 1:13, "Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:)." Lord, we acknowledge that You are the source of all wisdom, and as we reflect on this scripture, we recognize our need for guidance and insight in our lives, especially in these times of uncertainty and challenge.
Father, grant us the spirit of discernment that we might know the times in which we live. Help us to see beyond the surface of situations and to understand the deeper truths, the unseen forces at work around us. Just as the wise men of the king were called to give counsel based on their knowledge of law and judgment, I pray that You would place wise individuals in our lives—mentors, teachers, and friends—who are attuned to Your voice and who can guide us with Your wisdom.
Lord, in the decisions we face each day, whether they are personal, familial, or even global, allow us to seek the counsel of those who know Your ways. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, so that we might be able to discern the right path and pursue righteousness above all else. Teach us not to lean on our understanding but to acknowledge You in all our ways, trusting that You will direct our paths.
As we dive deeper into Your Word, may we find guidance in the scriptures, learning from the examples of those who have walked with You through trials and triumphs. Just as the king relied on the input of wise men, let us turn our hearts towards community—allow us to cherish the input of those who are faithfully following You. Lead us to be accountable, transparent, and open to wisdom when it is offered, knowing that it is a priceless gift.
God, we acknowledge that in our culture, the quest for knowledge is often misdirected. Help us to discern the difference between worldly wisdom and heavenly insight. Protect us from false teachings and the allure of quick fixes that don’t lead to lasting peace or righteousness. We seek only wisdom that is pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy—the wisdom that comes from above.
In our workplaces, families, and communities, grant us the ability to understand the critical times we are in. Help us to respond not with fear but with faith, not with division but with unity. May we become instruments of Your peace in times of conflict, drawing upon the wisdom of those who have walked these paths before us. Teach us to cultivate patience, humility, and grace as we navigate our interactions with others, acknowledging that we too can be sources of wisdom in our circles.
Finally, Lord, empower us to act upon the wisdom that You bestow upon us. May we not just be hearers of the Word but doers, applying Your teachings to every aspect of our lives. Let every decision we make and every conversation we have be steeped in Your wisdom.
We give You all the praise and glory, Lord, for Your everlasting love and guidance. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
