A Prayer for Wisdom and Diligence

"The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh." - Ecclesiastes 4:5

"The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh." - Ecclesiastes 4:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today with a heart full of gratitude and reverence for Your Word, which enlightens our paths and leads us towards righteousness. As I reflect on the profound wisdom found in Ecclesiastes 4:5, where it is proclaimed, "The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh," I humbly seek Your guidance to understand the depths of this verse and to instill its truth within my life.

Lord, I recognize that in this verse, You are calling us to consider the consequences of inaction and the foolishness of idleness. It is too easy for my heart to lean towards complacency when the trials of life become overwhelming. Strengthen my resolve, dear God, so that I might not be like the fool who folds his hands in despair, turning inward to eat away at his own hopes and dreams through apathy and disengagement.

Help me, O Lord, to pursue wisdom diligently and to understand that there is a time for work and a time for rest, but that idleness is not the path You desire for me. Teach me to balance my energies wisely and to engage actively in the responsibilities that You have laid upon my heart. Enable me to be a steward of the gifts and talents You have entrusted to me, so I may produce fruit for Your Kingdom.

Father, may I learn to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth rather than excuses for inactivity. Help me to see the potential within myself and to apply my hands to worthy endeavors, as Your Word says in Proverbs, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might" (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Guide my steps, Lord, and direct my efforts toward actions that reflect Your glory and benevolence toward others.

When the weight of the world seems to press down upon me and discouragement creeps at the edges of my spirit, remind me of the importance of perseverance. Let me not fold my hands in despair or retreat into self-pity. Instead, instill in me a proactive spirit; let my hands work as instruments of Your love and goodness in this world. Use my hands, Lord, to nurture, to build, and to uplift, rather than to destroy and consume.

In moments of doubt, when it feels easier to do nothing than to face difficulties head-on, grant me the strength to push through and trust in Your providence. May I never feel that my efforts are in vain, but rather hold close the promise that every act of diligence is known to You. As it is written in Galatians 6:9, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

Thank You, O God, for the assurance that though the journey may be tough, I do not walk it alone. In my labor, may I find joy in service, kindness in laboring for others, and purpose even in trials. Keep my heart aligned with Your will so that my work brings glory to Your name and momentum toward the good You desire for this world.

As I go forth from this prayer, may I carry with me the lessons of Ecclesiastes 4:5. Let not my hands fold in idleness, but may they remain open and active in the pursuit of wisdom and productivity. Watch over me, Lord, as I strive to bring my life into line with Your call, and infuse my spirit with a sense of urgency and purpose.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
