A Prayer of Grateful Offering and Spiritual Stewardship
"¶ And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw." - Deuteronomy 18:3

O Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of reverence and gratitude, acknowledging Your sovereignty over all creation. As we meditate on the wisdom found in Deuteronomy 18:3, which teaches us about the duties and due portions set aside for Your servants—the priests—we are reminded of the sacredness of offerings and the significance of gratitude in our worship. "And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw."
Lord, we recognize that our giving to You and to Your ministers is not merely a matter of obligation, but rather an act of worship and gratitude. You, who provide us with every good gift, deserve our utmost thanks. Every offering we bring is a reflection of our acknowledgment of Your provision and a sign of our commitment to support those who faithfully serve in Your temple. Enable us to understand that our sacrifices—whether they be from the abundance of our material resources or the sacrifices of our time and talents—are ultimately expressions of our love for You and Your people.
As we delve deeper into the spiritual meaning of our offerings, help us to remember that what we give is an extension of our hearts. May our contributions to Your work, both in the church and in the wider community, be made with joyous and willing spirits. Shape our motivations so that we might offer not just what is required but what springs from the overflow of our love and gratitude to You. Teach us to give cheerfully, as Paul reminded us in 2 Corinthians 9:7, so that our gifts might bear witness to the goodness and generosity that we have received from You.
O God, we ask that You bless every act of giving, every sacrifice made in Your name. In Deuteronomy, You instructed the Israelites to give portions to the priests—the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the maw. May we not overlook the significance of what these parts represent: the shoulder, a symbol of strength to bear burdens; the two cheeks, reminders of affection and connection; and the maw, representing the very sustenance of life. In our gifts, may we also share strength, genuine love, and nourishment for both body and soul to those who labor in Your name and to those in need around us.
Lord, we lift up to You the priests, pastors, and leaders of our congregations—those who dedicate their lives to serving You and Your people. Grant them wisdom, strength, and protection as they carry out their sacred duties. Enable them to preach Your Word with power and clarity and to guide us in our spiritual journeys. May our offerings support their ministries so that Your light may shine brightly in our cities and communities.
Help us also to cultivate a spirit of community among ourselves. Let our church family be a network of support, encouraging one another to further lend strength to those who may be weary and to provide nourishment to those who are hungry, both physically and spiritually. As we sacrificially give, help us to embody the spirit of Jesus, who taught us that "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).
Finally, dear Lord, remind us that all we possess ultimately belongs to You, and we are mere stewards of Your grace. May we live in a way that glorifies You, recognizing that as we give, we also receive—Your blessings abound in our hearts, making us richer than we could ever imagine.
In all of these things, Father, we give thanks for the opportunity to participate in Your divine plan. May everything we do—our worship, our offering, our acts of service—bring honor to Your name and draw others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We pray this in the precious name of Your Son, our Savior. Amen.
