A Prayer for a Tender Heart and Humble Spirit
"Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked." - Deuteronomy 10:16

Heavenly Father,
As I come before Your throne of grace, I am deeply reminded of the profound wisdom found in Your Word, particularly in Deuteronomy 10:16: "Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked." Lord, I understand these words are not just instructions for the ancients but timeless truths meant for my life today. I seek to embrace this divine counsel, allowing it to pierce the layers of my heart and soul.
Father, I acknowledge that sometimes my heart can be hard, molded by past experiences, hurt, and disappointment. These circumstances can create a barrier between me and Your love, making me resistant to Your will. Today, I ask You to help me perform a spiritual circumcision on my heart. Uproot every stubborn attitude, every ounce of pride that clouds my judgment and keeps me from fully submitting to Your directions. Remove any resistance to change and transformation, so I might be more pliable in Your hands, and capable of receiving the grace You generously offer.
O Lord, I confess that I have, at times, displayed a stiff neck—refusing to bend or yield, stubbornly holding on to my own understanding. I recognize that this pride leads to isolation and strife, moving me further away from You and from my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help me to see the futility in being obstinate and to embrace humility instead. Show me the beauty in yielding to You, in trusting Your plans over my own fragile perceptions of control.
I pray that You grant me a heart of flesh instead of a heart of stone, as promised in Ezekiel 36:26. Help me to feel and respond to the burdens of others, to empathize with their struggles. Teach me how to love genuinely and sacrificially, just as Your Son, Jesus, demonstrated sacrificial love for us on the cross. Let my heart reflect Your heart—filled with compassion, mercy, and understanding.
Lord, as I circumcise the foreskin of my heart, I ask that You would fill the spaces left behind with Your Spirit. Plant seeds of wisdom, kindness, and patience. Lead me to meditate on Your Word daily, to immerse myself in prayer, and to cultivate a spirit of worship that honors Your sovereignty and grace. My heart longs for closeness with You, and I believe that by softening my heart, I will draw nearer to Your presence.
Creator God, help me to recognize the signs of a stiff neck in my own life. Let me be vigilant, not only in identifying these traits within me but also in seeking to address them. Make me accountable to those You have placed in my life to encourage growth and reflection. May I lean on my community for support, allowing them to speak truth into my life and calling me to higher standards. Allow this spirit of transparency among us that we may grow together in Christ, drawing nearer to Your perfect love.
Thank You, Lord, for the reminder that transformation is possible, that I can choose humility over pride, and flexibility over stubbornness. I pray that my heart would be forever changed by this act of spiritual circumcision—that I would live in a way that is pleasing and honorable to You.
As I leave this prayer, I do so with gratitude, knowing that You are faithful to hear my cry and willing to grant the desires of my heart when they align with Your will. In all things, may Your glory be seen in my life, and may my heart overflow with love for You and for others. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
