A Prayer for Heavenly Focus and Transformation in Christ

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." - Colossians 3:1-17

O Gracious and Eternal Father, who art in heaven, come before you with a heart brimming with gratitude and awe. I stand in reverence of Thee, acknowledging that through Thy Son, Jesus Christ, I have been raised from the depths of sin and darkness into the glorious light of Thy presence. As it is written in Colossians 3:1, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God." Lord, I humbly pray that Your Holy Spirit instill within me a relentless desire to seek the things that are above—those treasures that are imperishable and eternal. May my gaze remain steadfastly fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith, continuously drawing closer to Him, who intercedes for me at Your right hand.

In my pursuit of the divine, Father, teach me to set my affection on things above and not the fleeting desires of this earthly life. Remind me that my life is hidden with Christ in You, God, as spoken in Your Word: "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God" (Colossians 3:3). May I cultivate a deep awareness of my new identity in Christ, laying aside the burdens of past sins and embracing the new life given to me through His resurrection.

Father, as I strive to walk in alignment with Thy will, I acknowledge the need to "mortify therefore [my] members which are upon the earth" (Colossians 3:5). Help me, dear Lord, to cast aside all that hampers my spiritual growth—fornication, uncleanness, and inordinate affection. Deliver me from the grips of evil concupiscence and covetousness, the silent idolatry that seeks to dethrone You in my heart. Let not the wrath that is due to the children of disobedience be mine, for I yearn to walk in the light of Your grace and truth.

I pray for strength to put off the old man with all his deeds, and to "put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him" (Colossians 3:10). Grant me the grace to embody renewal in every facet of my life, recognizing that in Christ there is no distinction—no Greek nor Jew, but rather a beautiful unity of hearts seeking Your glory and purpose.

Help me to embrace Your call to love, O Lord, as I "put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering" (Colossians 3:12). Teach me to practice forbearance and forgiveness, following the exquisite example of Christ who forgave my transgressions, that I too may extend grace to others. In a world torn apart by conflict, may love be the bond of perfection that binds us together, enabling us to shine as lights in the darkness.

I also pray for Your peace to rule in my heart, a peace that transcends all understanding, and that I remain thankful in all circumstances. As You instructed, "Let the word of Christ dwell in [me] richly in all wisdom" (Colossians 3:16). May Your Word be a wellspring of inspiration and guidance, flowing through my thoughts and actions, leading me to uphold truth and righteousness.

In everything, let my actions, words, and deeds be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to You, my Father. May my life be a continuous act of worship, reflecting Your love and grace to those around me. Empower me to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in my heart, lifting up a melody of gratitude and praise as I navigate this earthly journey.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
