A Prayer for Spiritual Discernment and Strength
"(Touch not; taste not; handle not;" - Colossians 2:21

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, recognizing the power and wisdom of Your Word, especially as we meditate on the truth captured in Colossians 2:21: "Touch not; taste not; handle not;" Lord, these words resonate deep within us, calling us to reflect on the things of this world that we often find ourselves entangled with. We confess that there are moments when our focus shifts away from You and onto the temporal pleasures and distractions that fill our lives.
Father, Your exhortation is clear, and yet, so difficult to abide by in a world that continuously enticingly whispers, "Just a little more; one more taste; one more indulgence." We pray for the strength to resist temptation in all its forms. Help us to see that the things we touch and taste and handle can often lead us away from the path of righteousness. May we develop a discerning spirit that weighs every action and every choice against Your divine will.
Lord, we are aware that our physical senses can lead us astray. Our eyes are drawn to worldly pleasures, our hands crave the things that bring temporary satisfaction, and our tongues often speak of things that do not glorify You. We humble ourselves today, acknowledging our weaknesses. As we reflect on Colossians 2:21, we ask for Your grace to refrain, to refrain from engaging in what the world deems acceptable but is contrary to Your teachings.
In these moments of temptation, remind us, Lord, of the true nature of freedom. Freedom is not the ability to do anything we please; rather, true freedom is found in surrendering our desires to You, in saying "no" to sin and "yes" to Your perfect plan. Give us the courage to stand firm in our faith, to uphold the truths of Your Word even when the pressures of society scream otherwise.
Heavenly Father, help us to build barriers around our hearts and minds to protect us from the influence of the world. Equip us with the armor of God so that we may withstand the attacks of the enemy who seeks to distract us and pull us away from You. Teach us to "walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise," taking advantage of every moment to glorify Your name.
As we meditate on the implications of not touching, tasting, or handling, may we also remember that these are not merely restrictions, but rather invitations to live a life filled with the fruits of the Spirit. Let us cultivate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—in all aspects of our lives. Help us to experience the richness of life that comes from focusing on You and not on the fleeting things of this world.
Lord, we lift our loved ones before You, asking for Your wisdom to rest on them too. Help us as a community to encourage one another, to lift up one another’s spirits, and to admonish each other in love when we stray. Let us be the light in this world, helping others see the danger in the things that draw us away from You, supporting each other in living out the truths of Your word.
Finally, we pray for a deeper relationship with You. Help us to find satisfaction in Your presence and joy in Your promises, so that we may find ourselves desiring less of what the world offers. Transform our hearts, Lord, and let our lives be testimonies of Your grace as we commit to not touching, tasting, or handling that which leads us away from You.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen.
