A Prayer of Gratitude for Redemption and Freedom
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;" - Colossians 2:14

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You in humble reverence, my heart is filled with gratitude for the immeasurable gift of salvation that You have bestowed upon me and all who believe in Your Son, Jesus Christ. In Your holy word, You remind us in Colossians 2:14: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross." Lord, how profound it is to understand the depth of what You accomplished on the cross, and I seek to unpack that truth in my spirit through this prayer.
Father, I recognize that the "handwriting of ordinances" symbolizes the weight of my sin and the judgment that stands against me. The laws that I have broken, the commandments I have failed to uphold, all paint a vivid portrait of my unworthiness. Yet, in Your infinite mercy, You did not leave me in a state of despair. Instead, You took that scroll, laden with accusations, and blotted it out for my sake. You removed every trace of it, as if it never existed, and for this, I am eternally grateful.
God, I acknowledge that these ordinances were not just rules to follow, but they represented the barriers between me and You. They were a constant reminder of my failures, always provoking guilt, shame, and condemnation. Each day, I have walked under the shadow of my transgressions, but You, in Your divine wisdom, chose to intervene. You took those very laws that were against me—those reminders of my shortcomings—and You nailed them to the cross.
Thank You, Lord, for nailing my sin to that cross. As Jesus suffered and died, He bore the weight of my guilt. It was there, upon that rugged beam of wood, that my sins—past, present, and future—were dealt with once and for all. I stand in awe of Your love that compelled You to endure such agony. In His suffering, I found my freedom. In His death, I discovered life.
Lord Jesus, as I reflect on Your sacrifice, I am reminded of the profound love that drove You to the cross. You saw me in my brokenness and chose to pay the price for my transgressions. Your willingness to bear my burdens transforms my shame into grace. You transformed my sentence of death into promises of life and abundance. I praise Your name for being the Lamb who was slain, who took my place and granted me access to the Father.
As I meditate on the meaning of this verse, I am moved by the reality that I no longer need to live under the constraints of my past. The chains of sin that once held me captive have been shattered. I am set free, delivered from all that was contrary to the abundant life You promised. With each breath that I take, I breathe in the forgiveness that flows from the cross. I claim the victory that was won on my behalf, and I affirm my identity as a child of God, fully redeemed and restored.
Lord, help me to walk in this newfound freedom. Let me not return to the bondage of guilt or condemnation. Instead, may I run boldly into Your presence, knowing that the victory has been secured for me. Teach me how to extend the grace I have received to others, not holding onto their failings but choosing to love them just as You have loved me—unconditionally.
In closing, I thank You, Father, for Your indescribable gift—Your Son, who blotted out the ordinances against us. As I carry this truth within me, may it transform my heart and mind. Let me live in joyful anticipation of what You have in store, all because of the incredible act of love that took place at Calvary.
In Jesus' mighty name, I pray, Amen.
