A Prayer for Justice and Courage
"And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:" - Acts 7:24

Heavenly Father,
As I come before Your throne of grace today, I approach with a heart full of gratitude and reverence for You, the Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. O Lord, You are the just and righteous judge, and Your ways are higher than our ways. We acknowledge Your sovereignty in every situation and seek Your wisdom and discernment as we reflect upon Acts 7:24, where it is written, "And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian."
Father, I thank You for the example set before us in the life of Moses. I am moved by his passionate response to injustice. He saw a fellow Hebrew suffering at the hands of the oppressor, and with courage ignited by compassion, he intervened. Lord, in our world today, injustice reigns in many forms, and I come before You to seek Your guidance and strength to be a warrior for justice as Moses was.
Help me, Lord, to be vigilant and aware of the injustices happening around me. Open my eyes to the suffering of those who feel marginalized and oppressed. Let me not turn a blind eye to the cries of the afflicted, but instill in me a spirit of empathy and strength. Let me embody the heart of Christ, who stood for the weak and unjustly treated. May I be moved by the cries of the oppressed and respond in love and action.
In times when I encounter suffering and wrong, help me to rise and defend those who cannot defend themselves. May I be emboldened to speak against injustices, regardless of the cost or the fear that may attempt to hold me back. Grant me the courage to smite the “Egyptians” in my life, which represent the systems and people who perpetuate oppression.
Lord, remind me that true strength lies not in physical power but in the willingness to stand for truth and righteousness. Equip my heart and mind with the necessary wisdom to discern when action is required and guide my feet towards paths of peace and justice. For it is Your will that we help those who are cast down and restore the hope of those who are suffering.
As I reflect on Moses’s actions, let me also remember that vengeance belongs to You, O Lord. Help me to trust in Your timing and Your judgment. In our human eyes, we often desire swift retribution against the oppressors; yet, let us remember that You are the ultimate defender and avenger. Teach me to seek restoration and forgiveness rather than retaliation.
Pour Your love into my heart so that I may reach out in kindness and support to those who suffer. Give me wisdom and understanding to know how best to advocate for the oppressed. Let my words be sweet with grace and my actions be guided by Your Spirit.
Lord, I pray for those who are currently suffering from oppression. May they feel Your mighty hand uplifting them. Infuse them with hope and courage, strengthening them in their battles against injustice, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual.
I lift up those who wield power and authority, that their hearts may be turned towards justice and mercy. Transform them to recognize and rectify the wrongs that have been inflicted upon the innocent. Raise up leaders who will defend the vulnerable with integrity and righteousness.
As I close this prayer, I ask for a spirit of unwavering commitment to the cause of justice. Let my life reflect Your call to action, as I defend the oppressed and advocate for the voiceless in our communities and beyond.
Thank You, Lord, for the bold example of Moses. May I emulate his courage and passion to fight against injustice. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
