A Prayer for Divine Support in Troubling Times
"Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven." - Acts 27:17

Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of this moment, I come before You, reflecting on the struggles and storms of life, much like the tumultuous journey faced by Paul and the other souls aboard the ship as described in Acts 27:17. "Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven." Lord, I ask that You grant me understanding of this powerful passage, and I humbly seek your presence as I meditate on the depths of its meaning.
As I find myself navigating through the tempest of life, I acknowledge the times of uncertainty. When the winds blow fiercely and I feel the waves crashing upon me, I pray for the wisdom and strength to take up the helps available to me, as the ship's crew did. Just as they took action to undergird their vessel, I ask for Your guiding hand to reinforce the foundations of my life, helping me to shore up my faith and trust in You.
Lord, I recognize that I cannot always see what lies ahead. The quicksands of fear, doubt, and despair threaten to engulf me. Teach me, O Lord, how to strake sail and navigate with confidence through the unknown waters. Your words remind me that fear is part of the human experience but turning to You helps quell that fear. May I always remember that You are my anchor, my unwavering source of hope amid troubling times.
Verses like this remind me of the importance of community and support during life’s challenges. Just as the sailors worked together, undergirding their ship, I pray for the ability to lean on my loved ones, friends, and community when I feel weak. Allow me to be a source of support for others as well. Help us to lift one another up when the storms arise. Let your love permeate our connections so that we may withstand the trials we face.
In those moments, when I feel as though I am being driven by the wind, I seek Your still small voice to guide me. I pray that You grant me peace amid chaos, like that experienced by the disciples when Jesus stilled the storm. May every worry be transmuted into prayers, asking for Your divine intervention and guidance. The noise of the world can be overwhelming, Lord, but remind me to focus on You, the Captain of my ship, as I set my course through the waves.
Each time I face a new challenge, help me to remember the faithfulness you have displayed throughout my life. Let me recall other storms that You have carried me through. From those past experiences, strengthen my resolve and trust in Your providence. I know that You are always with me, and for every tempest that I face, You have a purpose, a lesson meant for my growth.
Father, I come to you asking for courage. Help me not to fear the fall or the sinking sands but to have faith in the vessel that You have prepared for me. Teach me how to look at the fierce winds as opportunities for my faith to grow stronger. May I always strive to keep my eyes on You rather than the raging storm around me. I thank You that Your presence is my refuge, that I am never alone.
Lord, in closing, I step forward with renewed hope and strength. I lay my burdens at Your feet, trusting that You will guide me through the storms of life. With all my heart, I submit my struggles to You, knowing that You will carry me through every tempest, just as You did for those sailors long ago. Thank You for Your everlasting love, grace, and the supports You provide through your Word and the community of believers.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
