A Prayer for Boldness and Justice in the Face of Persecution
"¶ And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat," - Acts 18:12

O Sovereign Lord,
We come before You today in humility and reverence, recognizing the power of Your Word as it speaks to our souls and circumstances. In Acts 18:12, we are reminded of the days when Your faithful servant Paul faced the wrath of those who opposed Your truth. Your Word tells us, "And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat." Heavenly Father, we reflect on the courage of Paul, who continued to proclaim the Gospel despite hostility and adversity.
We acknowledge that, like Paul, many of Your followers face hostility from the world around them. We are mindful of those who stand up for Your truth in our own time, often facing ridicule, judgment, and persecution for their beliefs. Lord, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are unjustly accused or persecuted, that they may find their strength in You. May they, like Paul, remain steadfast and unshaken in their faith, knowing that their labor is not in vain.
O Mighty God, just as You stood with Paul in the face of persecution, we ask that You stand with all who are being unjustly targeted for their beliefs today. Surround them with Your protection and grant them a spirit of boldness. Let them remember that their trials are an opportunity to witness for You and to share Your love with those around them. Help them to see that, even in the midst of their suffering, there is purpose according to Your divine plan.
Lord, we also pray for the leaders of our communities and nations. Just as Gallio served as a deputy, we ask for wisdom and discernment for those in positions of authority. We beseech You to guide their judgments in ways that promote justice and righteousness. May they see through the lies and opposition that seek to undermine Your truth and instead uphold fairness and the rights of the accused.
We are reminded of the scripture that states, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). We plead for righteousness to prevail in our lands. Lord, let not the cries of the innocent be silenced. We yearn to see justice served and the truth brought to light. Stir in the hearts of unjust leaders a sense of accountability and a longing to act in accordance with Your will.
As we face our own challenges and the pressures from the world, help us to remember that with every insurrection that rises up against Your servants, there is a greater narrative of Your love and grace at work. You have promised that, though we may face trials, we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us (Romans 8:37). Let this truth rest upon our hearts and embolden us to stand firm in faith.
Enable us to be witnesses like Paul, bringing Your light into dark places, proclaiming the Gospel without fear, and trusting that You will defend us. Help us to be vessels of Your peace and instruments of unity, even when division seems easier to embrace. Let our love for one another transcend the strife that seeks to separate.
In closing, we place our trust in You, Lord. We know that Your ways are higher than our ways, and though we may not understand the reasons behind every trial we face, we trust that You are always with us. May Your presence give us comfort and strength.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
