A Prayer of Gratitude and Conviction
"Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." - Acts 15:26

O Heavenly Father,
As I approach Your throne of grace today, I pause in solemn reverence, reflecting on the depth of sacrifice and devotion represented in Acts 15:26: "Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." My heart swells with gratitude, and my spirit is stirred by the courage of those who have gone before us, who have put everything on the line out of love for Your Son.
Lord, You called these men to a higher purpose, to bear witness to Your truth amidst hostility and peril. They have shown us what it means to truly hazard one’s life—not merely in death but in every moment of living, in every choice, in every act of faith. Help me to understand the gravity of their sacrifice; they lived not for worldly gain but for the glory of Your name. Teach me, O God, to hazard my own comforts and desires in service to Your kingdom.
I confess that too often I have held back, allowing fear or complacency to silence my witness. I have hesitated to step out in faith, clinging to security rather than embracing the call to action. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have allowed my own desire for safety to overshadow the urgent call to follow You, no matter the cost.
As I muse on the example set by these faithful witnesses, I ask for a deepened conviction in my heart. May Your Holy Spirit ignite a fire within me that compels me to share the Gospel boldly. Give me the strength and determination like those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Christ’s name. May I not shrink back in fear but step forward with the assurance that You walk beside me in every endeavor.
Lord, as I reflect on the phrase "hazarded their lives," I recognize the manifold ways in which I am called to hazard in today’s world. It means risking my reputation for the sake of truth, engaging in conversations that may be uncomfortable but are essential for Your truth to shine through. It requires me to give of my time and resources to serve those in need, even when it feels inconvenient. It beckons me to lay down my life in love for others, just as Christ laid down His life for me.
I plead with You, Almighty God, to fill my heart with the same love that motivated the early disciples. Help me to seek not my own interests but the interests of others, particularly those who do not yet know Your grace. Instill in me a sense of urgency—a passionate commitment to be a light in the dark places of this world, a beacon of hope to the lost and needy.
Father, I also pray for those around the globe who continue to hazard their lives for Your name. May Your protective hand be upon them; grant them courage, strength, and hope. In regions where proclaiming Christ comes with persecution, bless them with comfort and fill their hearts with peace that surpasses all understanding. Use their testimonies to inspire and mobilize Your church around the world. Enable us to support their work through prayer, resources, and wherever we can aid in advancing the gospel.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I commit my heart and my life to You. As the hands and feet of Christ, allow me to respond to Your call to 'hazard' daily. May I wake each day resolved to turn my fear into faith, my hesitation into action, and my life into a testament of Your unfailing love. Let me never forget that it is in losing my life for Your sake that I truly find it.
Amen.
