Arise Up Quickly: A Prayer for God’s Delivering Light in Every Prison

"And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands." - Acts 12:7

"And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands." - Acts 12:{verse.verse_number}

Holy and Righteous Father,

I come before Thee in reverence and trust, thanking Thee for Thy Word that is living and true. I set my heart upon the Scripture in Acts 12:7, and I receive it as a witness of Thy power, Thy nearness, and Thy mercy toward Thy people. For it is written in the King James Version: “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.” Lord, I bless Thee for the “behold” moments—those divine interruptions when Heaven steps into human darkness, and the impossible yields to Thy command.

Father, I confess that there are times when I feel shut in—bound by fear, weary with waiting, or confined by circumstances I cannot change. Yet Thy Word declares that even in a prison, Thy light can shine. Let that light shine in the hidden places of my soul. Let it reach the corners where anxiety lingers, where discouragement settles, where unanswered questions echo. As Thou didst send help to Peter, send Thy help unto me. Let the presence of the Lord come upon me—not merely as an idea, but as a holy reality that shifts my posture, steadies my mind, and anchors my heart.

Lord, I ask Thee to awaken me as Thou didst awaken Thy servant. The Scripture says, “he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up.” If I have grown numb in sorrow, stir me. If I have become comfortable with limitations that are not Thy will, rouse me. If I have learned to live with chains that Thou hast not ordained, let Thy touch be upon me. Raise me up from spiritual drowsiness, from resignation, from defeat, and from every habit of hopeless thinking. Let Thy hand lift me into obedience and courage.

And Lord, I listen for Thy command: “Arise up quickly.” Give me grace to respond without delay. Where Thou hast called me to repent, let me arise up quickly. Where Thou hast called me to forgive, let me arise up quickly. Where Thou hast called me to pray with new fervency, let me arise up quickly. Where Thou hast called me to speak truth with love, to serve with humility, to walk in purity, to turn from sin, to step into faith, to pursue reconciliation, to honor Thee in my decisions—Lord, let me arise up quickly. Remove from me the spirit of procrastination and the weight of hesitation. Teach me that Thy timing is holy, and that obedience is safer than delay.

Father, I thank Thee that deliverance is not only a promise but an act of Thy power. Thy Word says, “And his chains fell off from his hands.” In the name of the Lord, let chains fall. Let the chains of fear fall off. Let the chains of bitterness fall off. Let the chains of secret sin fall off. Let the chains of condemnation and shame fall off. Let the chains of addiction, oppression, torment, and spiritual heaviness fall off. Let the chains of unbelief fall off, and replace them with confidence in Thy faithfulness. Lord, I cannot pry off every restraint by my own strength, but I believe that when Thou speakest, chains fall. Do in me what I cannot do for myself.

Father, when Thou bringest light into my prison, teach me to walk in that light. Give me wisdom to take the next step, and the next, and the next—trusting Thee even when the way is unfamiliar. Let me not return to old bondages after Thou hast opened a door. Keep me vigilant, sober, and thankful. Surround me with godly counsel, strengthen me with Scripture, and establish me in prayer.

And Lord, make me a witness of Thy deliverance. As Thou didst free Peter, use my life to testify that Thou art able to rescue, to restore, and to renew. Let my gratitude become worship, and let my freedom become service. Teach me to intercede for others who are still in prisons of their own—those who are weary, those who are persecuted, those who are forgotten, those who are bound in mind or body. Let Thy light shine in their prisons also.

I give Thee praise, for Thou art the God who comes upon Thy people, the God who causes light to shine in darkness, the God who raises the fallen, and the God before whom chains cannot remain. I rest in Thy mighty deliverance, and I submit to Thy holy command.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
