A Prayer for Peace and Unity in Times of Disunity
"¶ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country." - Acts 12:20

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today in humble submission, recognizing Your sovereignty over the affairs of our lives and nations. As we reflect upon Your Word in Acts 12:20, we see the complexities of human relationships and the strife that often emerges from discontent. "And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.” In this verse, we discern the struggles of those who sought reconciliation and favor, and we ourselves stand in need of Your grace in similar situations.
Lord, You see the strife that exists in our own cities, our nations, and our world. Like the people of Tyre and Sidon, we sometimes find ourselves in difficult relationships — with leaders, with neighbors, and even within our own families. There is often discontent because of misunderstandings, differing perspectives, and the hunger for power. We pray for those who feel greatly displeased and marginalized. Surround them with Your love and understanding. Help them find a way to sit at the table and seek resolution rather than division.
In the interplay of interests between leaders and their constituents, we often see the battle for peace hindered by arrogance and pride. Father, grant our leaders wisdom and humility, that they may be reminded of their responsibility to govern not just for themselves, but for the people they represent. Let them, like Blastus, befriend those they lead and seek peace actively. Teach our leaders to prioritize the needs of the vulnerable over their desires for power and fame. May they approach one another with open hearts, ready to communicate and collaborate for the common good.
God of Mercy, we pray for those who feel the repercussions of such displeasure. The people of Tyre and Sidon came to their leader to seek favor because their sustenance came from him. We lift up the marginalized and the poor who depend on the goodwill of those in authority. May they find advocates, allies, and support in their struggles. Give them the courage to speak out and pursue solutions that lead to justice and fairness. Help them to forge connections and alliances that bring about fruitful change.
Lord, we acknowledge our own hearts in these matters. Are we sometimes like Herod, displeased with those who we perceive as a threat or who might challenge our ideas? Or are we like the people of Tyre and Sidon, trying to navigate the turbulent waters of discontent? Examine us, O Lord, and cleanse our hearts of any resentment, bitterness, or pride. Help us to embolden us to pursue peace — not just for ourselves, but in our communities, workplaces, and homes.
We pray for unity among believers today. Like the citizens of Tyre and Sidon who came together in one accord, let us set aside our differences and come together, unified as one body in Christ. Help us to lift each other up, encourage one another, and strive for the greater good. May the love of Christ prevail in all our interactions. Let peace be our pursuit and reconciliation our aim.
Finally, let us understand that our hope is not in worldly leaders but in You, Lord. Turn our hearts toward You and remind us daily that our ultimate nourishment comes from You. May we seek peace in all places, reflecting the kindness and grace You have shown us. We ask for Your blessing upon Tyre and Sidon, upon our communities, and upon our world. May we stand as instruments of Your peace, bringing harmony where there is strife, love where there is hate, and hope where there is despair.
In Jesus' name we pray,
Amen.
