Heavenly Father, Creator of all things, we come before You today with heavy hearts, in reverence and awe of Your infinite wisdom and grace. We acknowledge that You are the foundation of all truth and the source of our strength. As we meditate on the words of 3 John 1:9 – "I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not," we are reminded of the dangers that pride and ambition pose to the unity of Your body, the Church.

Lord, we confess that within our hearts, there can sometimes dwell a desire for recognition and superiority, just as Diotrephes sought to elevate himself above others, disregarding the teachings and authority You ordained. We pray for the humility that Jesus exhibited during His time on earth. Help us to remember that true greatness in Your kingdom comes from serving and loving one another rather than seeking positions of power and prominence.

In the name of Jesus, we ask that You root out any seeds of pride or ambition within us. Teach us to value others above ourselves, to see beyond our own desires and ambitions, and to embrace the call to serve selflessly. May we learn to love as You love, fully and unconditionally, extending grace and kindness even in times of disagreement.

Father, we lift up all members of Your Church, especially those who may be tempted by the desire for preeminence or who may, like Diotrephes, reject the guidance of fellow believers. Remind us that we are all equal in Your sight and that every member plays a vital role in the body of Christ. Help us to celebrate one another’s abilities, talents, and contributions, instead of competing for recognition or influence. May we strive to build one another up in love, rather than allowing self-importance to create division.

We pray for leaders in the Church, that they would lead with humility and integrity, always pointing others to You rather than seeking their own glory. Protect them from the pitfalls of pride that Diotrephes fell into. Let their hearts be filled with a sincere desire to serve and to honor You above all else. Give them wisdom to shepherd their flocks gently, maintaining a spirit of unity, and remind them that their authority is derived from Your Word and not from personal ambition.

God, we know that unity among believers is a powerful testimony to the world of Your grace and love. Therefore, we ask that You grant us a spirit of unity, binding us together with cords that cannot be broken. Help us to overcome any barriers that self-seeking might create within our communities. May our hearts be filled with compassion for one another, always ready to listen, to forgive, and to reconcile.

As we reflect on 3 John 1:9, help us recognize the subtle ways that pride may present itself in our lives. Give us the courage to confront our flaws, to seek accountability, and to strive for a character that glorifies You rather than ourselves. Let us be quick to receive the truths and correction that come from our brothers and sisters in faith, knowing that they are ultimately meant to strengthen the bonds of love and faith.

Lord, as we move forward, fill us with Your Spirit, instilling in us a deep commitment to pursue unity and humility. Remind us that we are called not to be lords over one another, but to serve as stewards of the grace You have bestowed upon us. Let our lives reflect the heart of Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.
