A Prayer of Grace and Provision for the Broken

"Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants." - 2 Samuel 9:10

"Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants." - 2 Samuel 9:{verse.verse_number}

O Lord, our Heavenly Father,

With humble hearts, we come before You, meditating on the profound truth embedded within Your Word, particularly in the words spoken in 2 Samuel 9:10, which declares: "Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table."

We are reminded in this verse of the grace extended to Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and the grandson of Saul, who, despite his brokenness and disability, was welcomed to dine at the table of King David. Lord, only You can extend such grace, drawing forth from the depths of Your mercy that which none of us deserves.

In light of this beautiful narrative, we ask, Father, for Your grace to envelop our lives. Just as Mephibosheth was accepted and provided for, may we, too, find a place at Your table, not because of our merits but because of Your everlasting love. Let us recognize that we, like Mephibosheth, bring our own imperfections, weaknesses, and struggles into Your presence, and yet paradoxically, it is there that we find our belonging.

We thank You for Ziba, the servant appointed to serve Mephibosheth. Just as Ziba worked tirelessly in the fields to provide for him and his family, we pray that You will raise up servants in our own lives—people who will support and nourish us, who will remind us that we are not alone in our journey. May we also be Ziba for others, extending our hands to those who find themselves in difficult situations, and showing kindness and compassion to those in need.

Lord, we seek wisdom in our endeavors; grant us the diligence to till the land You have assigned to us. Just as Ziba and his sons worked to bring in the harvest, help us cultivate the gifts You have bestowed upon us so that we may be fruitful in our calling. Teach us the value of hard work, patience, and humility, knowing that through our labor, we can bring forth provision for those who are unable to provide for themselves.

Pour out Your abundant blessings upon our efforts, Lord. Just as David ensured that Mephibosheth would eat at his table, we ask that You grant us sustenance in both body and spirit. May we never lack the essential nourishment—Your Word, the Bread of Life—transforming our hearts and filling our souls with joy and peace.

As we reflect on this touching story of compassion, let it ignite within us a desire to show kindness to others. Help us to remember the countless Mephibosheths in our world—those who feel forgotten, abandoned, and broken by life’s circumstances. Give us the courage to extend a welcoming hand, to invite them to share our tables, and to treat them with dignity and respect.

God of all comfort, may we find our solace in Your presence, knowing that no matter our situation, we can always come to You. May we experience the joy of fellowship with You and with one another, understanding that You have called each of us to be part of Your family. Let our lives be a testimony of grace—grace that knows no bounds, that overlooks our shortcomings, and that draws us ever nearer to Your heart.

We thank You, gracious King, for all that You do for us, for calling us out of our brokenness into the light of Your love. We commit our hearts, our lives, our tables, and our resources to You. May Your will be done in us and through us, forevermore.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
