A Prayer for Divine Guidance and Wisdom
"And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time." - 2 Samuel 17:7

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts filled with gratitude and reverence for Your infinite wisdom and boundless love. Just as Hushai stood before Absalom, recognizing the need for sound advice in times of turmoil, we, too, seek Your guidance in our lives. In the scripture, 2 Samuel 17:7, Hushai boldly declared, "The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time." Lord, we echo this plea, asking for clarity and discernment to know which voices to heed and which paths to follow.
Father, in a world overflowing with opinions and advice—sometimes conflicting and often misleading—help us to discern the counsel that aligns with Your perfect will. Grant us wisdom, just as You granted wisdom to Hushai. May our understanding deepen, that we might navigate the complexities of our lives with grace and insight. Teach us to seek You first above all else, so that our decisions reflect Your glory and not the fleeting desires of our hearts.
As we face the challenges of our circumstances, remind us, Lord, of the importance of wise counsel. May we surround ourselves with those who are led by Your Spirit, who will offer advice rooted in truth and love. Help us to filter out the noise of the world and to listen intently to Your still, small voice guiding us each step of the way. In times of uncertainty, may we turn to Your Word, our ultimate source of wisdom, for the answers and assurance we seek.
We acknowledge, dear God, that there are moments when the path before us seems unclear or when the counsel of others may lead us astray. When we find ourselves in similar circumstances as Hushai, standing against the advice that does not serve our best interest, grant us the courage to speak truth lovingly and firmly. Instill in us the boldness to stand up for what is good and right, regardless of the opinions around us. May our voices reflect Your truth and righteousness, even when it is challenging.
Lord, we pray for our leaders, both in our communities and in our nations. Just as Absalom had a choice to heed the advice of Hushai over Ahithophel, may our leaders seek Your guidance above all worldly wisdom. Surround them with advisors who speak truth and justice, and steer them away from paths that lead to destruction. Illuminate the hearts of those in authority, that they may always seek to govern with integrity and a heart for the people they serve.
In our personal lives, Lord, there may be times when we have received advice that, while seemingly wise, does not align with Your will for us. Help us to possess the discernment to recognize such moments so that we can redirect our focus towards the counsel that comes from You. We pray that we will be like Hushai, able to provide wise counsel at the right time, guiding others toward the light of Your presence.
As our hearts become more attuned to Your voice, may we find peace in the storms of our lives, confident in the understanding that Your ways are higher than our own. Let Your truth be our compass, steering us through the confusion of life’s choices. Fill us with Your wisdom that we may not only seek counsel but also provide guidance to those who may be lost.
In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is the embodiment of truth and wisdom, we pray. Amen.
