Seeking Divine Guidance Through Prophets
"But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah." - 2 Kings 3:11

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, yearning to seek Your guidance and wisdom in all our endeavors. We echo the words of Jehoshaphat in 2 Kings 3:11, as it is written, "But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him?" Oh Lord, in our times of uncertainty and decision-making, may we always seek out those who speak Your truth and represent Your divine will, as Elisha did in his ministry. We acknowledge that we are not equipped to navigate the complexities of life without Your wisdom leading us.
Lord, we know that in every situation, You have established prophets among us to guide Your people. We ask for the discernment to recognize the voices that are from You, and the wisdom to heed their counsel. Just as Jehoshaphat sought out the prophet of the LORD, remind us that it is not by our own understanding that we make decisions, but by the wisdom You choose to impart through those You have anointed.
We thank You, Father, for the gift of Elisha, the son of Shaphat, who had served faithfully under Elijah. It is profound to realize that Elisha’s service prepared him for a greater calling—to be the mouthpiece of Your Word in a time of need. We pray, Lord, that we too may be faithful in the small tasks You have given us, recognizing that each moment of service can lead to a greater calling in our lives. Help us to pour our hearts into our tasks, as Elisha poured water on Elijah’s hands, trusting that You are preparing us for what lies ahead.
Lord, in times of distress or confusion, we often look for signs and wonders. Yet sometimes, all we need is a prophet—a messenger of Your truth. Help us to seek them out and to remain open to the messages You send through them. Remind us that You speak in many ways, through people, circumstances, and even through the stillness of our hearts. May we be eager to listen for Your voice, Lord, even amidst the noise of the world.
As we reflect on Jehoshaphat's plea, we recognize our deep need for Your guidance. We bring before You our challenges, our decisions, and the battles we face. We will not rely solely on our own strength or wisdom. Instead, we affirm that we will seek after those whom You have placed in our lives to speak Your truth, to provide encouragement, and to help us discern Your will.
Father, we also lift up the prophets and leaders You have established in our communities. Grant them courage, wisdom, and protection as they fulfill their roles. Give them clarity as they communicate Your desires to Your people, and may their words resonate with truth and hope. May we be responsive to their guidance, as they guide us toward deeper intimacy with You.
Lord, as we navigate life’s journey, we ask for the faith to trust in Your plans. Help us to be diligent in prayer, in asking the right questions, and seeking Your face. Allow us to sincerely inquire on our behalf and for others as we seek divine direction—much like Jehoshaphat did. Let us bring our petitions to You openly, acknowledging that we cannot do this alone.
In conclusion, Lord, we thank You for Elisha and the prophets of this generation who continue to faithfully speak in Your name. May we be found faithful to listen, to act, and to follow through on what You reveal to us. We express our love and trust in You, knowing that with Your guidance, we will walk in the truth and purpose for which we were created.
In Jesus' name, we pray,
Amen.
