A Prayer of Confession and Restoration Before the Lord
"¶ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem." - 2 Chronicles 36:14

O Sovereign Lord, God of all creation, I come before You today with a heavy heart, weighed down by the remnants of our transgressions and the sinfulness that pervades our world. I reflect upon the words of 2 Chronicles 36:14, where it is noted, "Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem." In this reflection, I acknowledge the gravity of sin and the impact it has had upon Your house, Your sanctuary – the very embodiment of Your presence among us.
Lord, how far we have strayed from the holiness that You have called us to! The leaders of the church, like the chief priests of old, have frequently wandered into paths that lead away from Your righteousness. In our quest for acceptance, we have too often mimicked the ways of the ungodly, adopting their practices and ideologies, and in doing so, we have polluted the sacred space You have entrusted to us. I am reminded that our actions carry great weight and influence; as those set apart for Your purpose, we ought to reflect Your glory, not diminish it.
Father, forgive us for the times we have compromised our call to holiness and allowed the noise of the world to drown out Your voice. We've let the abominations of the heathen infiltrate the walls of the church, warping the integrity of our worship and leading us astray. We confess as a body the sins of pride, dishonesty, immorality, and division that have permeated every level of leadership and congregation alike. We have sought our own desires over Your divine will, and in our wanderings, we have stained both our hearts and Your temple.
Lord, we must face the fact that there are generations who have witnessed this transgression. We stand before You aware of the consequences that befall those who forsake Your statutes. Like the Israelites, when we stray from Your path, we not only jeopardize ourselves but also fail in our duties to lead others toward You. We have polluted the very sanctuary that You have hallowed. Help us, dear Lord, to reverse this course with sincere repentance and a commitment to restoration.
We cry out for healing in our churches, Lord. We ask that the Holy Spirit would ignite the flames of revival within our hearts and rekindle the fire of faith in our gatherings. Let us be instruments of Your grace, serving with integrity and inviting a fresh wave of Your presence into our midst. May we build our lives upon the foundation of Your Word, renouncing the influences of this world that seek to corrupt our devotion and our worship.
Heavenly Father, I plead for a cleansing of our minds, hearts, and souls. Shine a light on the hidden places of sin that we might not even recognize. Empower us, through Your Spirit, to take every thought captive and to live lives of integrity, reflecting the light of Christ within us. Restore unto us the joy of our salvation and draw our feet back to the path of righteousness.
Let Your church rise up as an unblemished bride, radiant and pure, fully restored in spirit and truth. May we, Your people, turn our hearts back to You and commit ourselves to honoring the sanctuary You’ve placed among us, recognizing its sacredness.
In this act of covenant renewal, we make a promise to seek Your face, to turn from our wicked ways and to champion the cause of Your Kingdom. Help us to nurture humility, love, and unity among the body of Christ. May our worship be genuine and pleasing in Your sight, as we put away our idols and dedicate ourselves to Your service once more.
In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
