A Prayer for Humility and Gratefulness
"But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem." - 2 Chronicles 32:25

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of reverence and a deep desire to reflect on the lessons contained within Your sacred Word. As we meditate on 2 Chronicles 32:25, which states, "But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem," we find ourselves confronted with the importance of humility and the dangers of pride.
Lord, we acknowledge that You have blessed us in innumerable ways. You have showered us with grace, mercy, and abundant provisions that we often take for granted. Just as You extended Your favor upon Hezekiah and the nation of Judah, we, too, have experienced the richness of Your blessings in our lives. Yet, we confess that like Hezekiah, we sometimes respond to Your kindness with ingratitude. We are reminded that our responses should always reflect our understanding of Your goodness.
Help us, Father, to cultivate a spirit of gratefulness in every circumstance. May we be quick to recognize Your hand in all that we have and in all that we accomplish. Assist us in acknowledging that it is not by our own strength, intellect, or means that we thrive, but it is by Your grace alone. Teach us to render thanks back unto You and to those around us who embody the kindness that reflects Your love. Let our hearts be humble, recognizing that every good gift comes from above.
Lord, we know that pride can creep into our hearts without warning. Hezekiah’s heart was lifted up, leading to a downfall that turned Your favor into wrath. Protect us from the sin of pride, which is often subtle yet dangerous. Help us recognize the moments when we are tempted to lift ourselves up, thinking too highly of our accomplishments or status. Teach us, Lord, to remember who we are without You—nothing but dust—dependent on Your every breath.
We pray against the spirit of arrogance that can lead to division and conflict among us. In our families, communities, and churches, help us to foster an environment of mutual respect and support, rather than competition and self-promotion. As we see pride ruin relationships and bring wrath, let us instead choose to walk in humility and harmony with one another. May we offer grace the way You have abundantly given it to us.
Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness where we have fallen short, where we have neglected to acknowledge Your provision in our lives; where we have failed to speak words of thanks and acknowledgment to those You have placed in our path. Cleanse our hearts and minds of any arrogance and restore within us a right spirit. Help us remember that true strength and greatness are found in service and humility.
As we reflect on this passage, remind us that the consequences of pride not only affect us individually but also impact our communities and nations. Just as Hezekiah’s pride brought wrath upon Judah and Jerusalem, let us strive to be the generation that promotes humility and gratitude, ensuring that our collective hearts remain aligned with Your will. Strengthen us, O Lord, to be steadfast in our pursuit of righteousness and justice, so that we might reflect Your character to the world around us.
In all things, Father, may we come back to the heart of gratitude. May we offer our praise and thanks as a natural outpouring of our recognition of Your goodness. Let us seek to uplift others, share our blessings, and shine Your light brightly in a world that desperately needs Your grace.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen.
