A Prayer of Generosity and Consecration
"And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps." - 2 Chronicles 31:6

Heavenly Father, our gracious and loving God, we come before You in reverence and humility, acknowledging Your sovereign authority over all things. We stand in awe of Your greatness, knowing that You are the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and that everything we have comes from Your bountiful hand. Lord, we thank You for the gifts of life, health, and sustenance that You bestow upon us daily. We are reminded of 2 Chronicles 31:6, which states, ‘And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.’
Father, as we meditate on this scripture, we recognize the importance of our offerings to You. Just as the people of Judah brought the first fruits of their labor, we too seek to honor You with our tithes and offerings. Help us, Lord, to have a heart of gratitude that overflows in generosity. Teach us to acknowledge You as the source of all blessings, for Your word tells us, ‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above’ (James 1:17). Instill in us a spirit of obedience, that we may faithfully give back to You a portion of what You have given us.
Help us to understand that when we bring our tithes, we are not merely fulfilling a religious duty, but we are participating in the work of Your kingdom on earth. We ask that You guide our hearts to give with joy, remembering that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). May our acts of generosity be a reflection of Your love, and may they serve as a testament of our faith in You.
Lord, we also pray for the spirit of consecration, as mentioned in the verse. We recognize that the things we present to You should be holy and set apart for Your purposes. Help us to consecrate our resources, our time, our talents, and our appetites unto You. May we not simply offer what is left over, but give our best to You, just as these children of Israel did by bringing the best of their oxen and sheep.
Jesus, let us remember that our sacrifices, great or small, are significant in Your sight. Teach us to lay down our ambitions, our desires, and our worries at Your feet, trusting that You will provide for us in every area of our lives. As the children of Judah laid their offerings by heaps, may our hearts be filled with abundance and love, so that we may become vessels of blessings to those around us.
As we heap our offerings before You, Lord, let those heaps also signify the heaps of grace, hope, and love that we are called to share with the world. Let our church be a beacon of light in our community, where the needs of our neighbors are met through our generosity.
Help us not to become burdened by our giving, but rather, let us find delight in it. Remind us, Lord, that the measure with which we give shall be measured back to us (Luke 6:38). Teach us to trust in Your providence, knowing that You are our ultimate provider.
In conclusion, we ask for Your guidance, that our hearts may continually strive towards generosity and consecration. Lead us in the ways of righteousness and use us to impact the lives of many for Your glory. May we bring our tithes and offerings with joyful hearts, celebrating the privilege of serving You through our giving. We ask these things in Jesus’ faithful name, Amen.
