O Sovereign Lord,

We come before You today with humbled hearts, acknowledging the depth of human frailty and the complexity of our lives. We reflect upon the words in 2 Chronicles 24:22, where it is written: "Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it."

This powerful scripture reminds us of the importance of remembrance, especially of the kindness shown to us by others. It serves as a solemn warning against the tendency to forget the blessings and the grace that You have poured into our lives through those You send to guide us, protect us, and nurture us in faith.

Lord, as we ponder Joash’s actions, we see a heart that has turned from gratitude and has become hardened with pride, leading to tragic consequences. We pray that in our own lives, we may never forget the kindnesses that have shaped us—the sacrifices, teachings, and love bestowed upon us by those You have placed in our paths. May we remember the Jehoiada’s of our lives who selflessly brought us closer to You and who sought our salvation.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have taken Your gifts and the support of loved ones for granted. Help us to cultivate a spirit of thankfulness; let us not fall into the trap of bitterness or ungratefulness that Joash displayed. May we always hold fast to the good memories and the lessons learned from those who have looked upon us with love and kindness.

As we delve deeper, we acknowledge that Joash’s act was not merely one of forgetfulness but also one of grave consequence—one that led to violence and sorrow. We ask for Your mercy upon our hearts to recognize how our actions may harm others and to understand the weight of our responsibility towards one another. Lord, may we never conclude our lives with regrets as Joash did; may we rather live with the assurance of having honored those who have blessed us. When our days on earth are concluded, let it be through our actions that we reflect the love of Christ—the ultimate example of kindness and sacrifice.

As we reflect on Joash’s final words, "The LORD look upon it, and require it," we turn to You, dear Father, asking for Your careful oversight over our lives. We pray that You would examine our hearts and reveal to us any areas where we might mirror the forgetfulness of Joash. Help us to push past the shadows of pride and to stand in the light of humility where we can see clearly the path You have laid before us.
