A Prayer for Divine Guidance and Righteous Leadership

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the words found in 2 Chronicles 22:9, where it states: "And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom." Lord, I stand before You in awe of Your sovereign power and Your unchanging will.
Father, in this passage, we see the gravity of leadership and the consequences of turning away from You. Ahaziah, despite being the son of a man who sought You wholeheartedly, made choices that led to his downfall. This has been a reminder for me, Lord—that our actions have consequences not only for ourselves but also for those around us. Help me to be mindful of my choices and to seek righteousness, wisdom, and Your guidance in all areas of life.
Lord, I lift up our leaders, both in the church and within our communities. May they be like Jehoshaphat, seeking You with all their heart. I pray that they will be filled with the Holy Spirit, making decisions that align with Your will and lead people closer to You. Surround them with godly counsel, and protect them from the temptations and distractions that lead to compromise.
I ask that You uproot any evil influences that might tempt our leaders to stray from the path of righteousness. Just as You brought Ahaziah into judgment, I pray that You bring judgment upon any corruption and evil that may be present in our leadership today. Let Your justice roll down like water and Your righteousness like a mighty stream (Amos 5:24).
Lord, help me to not only pray for my leaders but also to hold them up with encouragement and support. Give me the grace to engage with them wisely and lovingly, seeking to influence in ways that reflect Your heart. Help us all to remember that we are called to be the light in the darkness, leading others to the knowledge of Your grace and truth.
I pray for the hearts of those who are in positions of authority. Like Jehoshaphat, may they seek You fervently and devote their lives to Your service. Your Word says that the heart of the king is in Your hand (Proverbs 21:1); I ask that You would turn their hearts towards You and instill a deep reverence and love for Your ways in every decision they make.
As we reflect on the outcome of Ahaziah’s reign, I am reminded that a kingdom that turns from You cannot stand. Lord, let our nation and its leaders remember that true power comes from serving You and seeking Your guidance. Let them not be like Ahaziah, who sought their own way and ultimately faced destruction, but be like a wise king, who knows that they are appointed by You to serve for Your purposes.
Finally, I pray for the people—those of us who are under leadership, that we may also seek You diligently in our lives. Teach us to be intercessors, praying for our leaders and communities, standing firm on Your promises. May we witness a revival that comes from our collective hearts that seek You with all their strength, mind, and soul.
