A Prayer for Seeking God with a Prepared Heart
"Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God." - 2 Chronicles 19:3
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, filled with gratitude for Your infinite love and grace. As we pause to reflect on the profound wisdom of Your Word, we are reminded of the words from 2 Chronicles 19:3, which say, "Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God." Lord, we gather to thank You for the goodness that You have instilled within us, and to seek the spirit of preparedness in our hearts to pursue You with diligence and sincerity.
Father, we acknowledge that life’s journey oftentimes leads us down paths that stray away from Your divine will. Just as the people of Judah had their groves and high places, we too have distractions and temptations that draw our focus away from You. We confess the moments where our hearts have been divided, where we allowed worldly pleasures to take precedence over our communion with You.
We ask for Your forgiveness, O Lord. Cleanse us from every sin and help us to tear down the groves in our lives—the elements of our existence that challenge, jeopardize, and detract from our relationship with You. May we be like Jehoshaphat, who took decisive action to eliminate idolatry and restore the rightful worship of You in the land. Importantly, show us what these spiritual 'groves' look like in our lives today, whether they be habits, thoughts, or desires that do not glorify You.
As we confront these strongholds, grant us the strength and courage to persevere. Help us to prepare our hearts to seek You earnestly. Ignite in us a desire that can only be quenched by the Living Water that is Your presence. Create in us clean hearts, and renew a right spirit within us, that we may pursue You wholeheartedly, as Your Word encourages us to do.
Lord Jesus, we recognize that seeking You is not simply an act of occasionally turning our attention in prayer and worship but a continuous journey of faith, love, and dedication. Teach us to cultivate our relationship with You each day, through the disciplines of prayer, meditation on Your Word, and serving those around us. May our hunger for righteousness grow stronger as we draw near to You, knowing that Your Word assures us that when we seek You with all our hearts, we will find You (Jeremiah 29:13).
We also pray for those in our lives who do not yet know You, Lord, asking that You use us as instruments of Your love and grace. May our good works reflect the transformation You are bringing about in our hearts and lives. Let others see the results of us removing groves from our lives, and in witnessing our dedication to seeking You, may they, too, be inclined to pursue a relationship with You.
Finally, we thank You, Lord, for the good things found in us—our willingness to turn away from what does not honor You, and our desire to prepare our hearts to seek You. We recognize that it is only through Your grace that we are capable of these acts. Strengthen us in our endeavors to grow in faith and love, so that every facet of our lives becomes an offering to You.
In closing, we worship You, our ever-faithful Creator. May our hearts be steadfast, our minds be vigilant, and our spirits be eager as we endeavor to seek You above all else. We submit this prayer in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
