Return to the LORD: A Prayer of Commitment and Deliverance
"¶ And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines." - 1 Samuel 7:3

Gracious Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humbleness and reverence, drawn by Your everlasting love and the call to return to You as outlined in 1 Samuel 7:3.
And just as Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, we hear that same call now. We thank You for the reminder that our desire must be genuine and complete—a return with all our hearts. Father, we confess that in our lives, we have often strayed far away from You. We acknowledge the many distractions that have lured our hearts away from a passionate pursuit of You. We recognize the strange gods that have crept into our lives, the Ashtaroth that symbolize the things we have put before You—relationships, ambitions, and worldly desires that have taken precedence over our commitment to You.
As we seek to put away these idols, we ask for divine strength and wisdom. Help us to identify and cast aside every obstacle that hampers our relationship with You. Remind us of the joy and peace that come from serving You wholeheartedly, enabling us to break free from the chains of complacency and tradition that may bind our hearts.
Lord, give us the courage to prepare our hearts unto You—to create a space within us that is wholly Yours. We echo the cry of Samuel as we seek to lay down our burdens and distractions, enabling us to serve You only. We recognize that serving You is not merely a task or duty but a joyful response to Your love and grace. Inspire us to live lives that are obedient and fully committed to You.
We surrender our spirits and ask for the Holy Spirit to move within us, refining our hearts and rekindling our love for You. As we turn our attention back to You, grant us the ability to recognize Your presence in our everyday lives. Teach us to see the beauty of serving You—how it brings meaning and fulfillment in ways that the strange gods of this world cannot.
We also pray, dear Father, for unity among Your people. May the house of Israel return together, side by side, in full-hearted devotion to You, so that we may come collectively before Your throne, recognizing our need for revival and restoration. Help us to love one another as You have loved us, building each other up as we seek to eliminate the idols of pride, self-interest, and rivalry from our midst.
As Samuel promised, we cling to the assurance that when we put away the strange gods and return to You, You will indeed deliver us from our enemies. We are surrounded by challenges and adversities in this world—the Philistines represent the struggles and trials that threaten to overwhelm us. We ask for Your mighty hand to move on our behalf, reassuring us that with You, we shall have victory. We trust that You will protect us from attacks—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—and deliver us into a place of peace and security that only comes from You.
Consecrate our days, Lord; let them be filled with Your purpose. May we be diligent in seeking You first in all things. Let our service to You reflect our love and gratitude. As we focus our hearts and minds on You, we know that we will experience true deliverance, just as You promised.
O God, may our lives be testaments of Your faithfulness, our hearts transformed by the power of Your grace. We embrace the call to return to You. We desire to serve You only.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray,
Amen.
