Dear Heavenly Father,

As I approach Your throne of grace today, I am reminded of the powerful and haunting story of King Saul in 1 Samuel 28. In this moment of desperation, Saul turns to the witch at Endor, seeking guidance that he cannot find in You. And as Your Word recounts, "And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night" (1 Samuel 28:25 KJV). Lord, I come before You recognizing the depths of despair that can lead us to seek counsel in places far from Your light.

Father, I acknowledge that like Saul, I often find myself in moments of fear and uncertainty, where the voices of the world may seem louder than Your still, small voice. Saul, in his moment of vulnerability, sought a meal to fill his stomach and comfort to soothe his soul, but it was a grim sustenance that could not satisfy the depths of his anguish. I pray that I may never turn my heart away from Your guidance, even when I’m overwhelmed or uncertain. Help me to seek You first in every trial instead of seeking refuge in the things of this world.

O Lord, the image of Saul rising and leaving that night lingers on my heart. It serves as a reminder that without true guidance, we are often left in darkness. I pray that You open my eyes to see the path You have laid before me. When the nights grow darker and the storms rage all around me, let me cling to Your promises and reminders that You are my ultimate refuge and source of wisdom.

I seek Your divine guidance, dear Lord, in the decisions I face today. Help me approach my life’s challenges not with a heart of fear like Saul, but with a heart full of faith, trusting in Your will. Teach me to rest in You and to seek Your counsel through prayer, Scripture, and the wise counsel of godly friends. May I find true nourishment in Your Word and in the community of believers You have placed in my life.

In Your holy Word, You remind us that there is safety in the multitude of counselors, yet Saul chose to disregard the wisdom of Your prophets. Lord, forgive me for the times I have ignored the warnings and wisdom You have sent my way. Forgive me for the times I have let my fear drown out the truth and sought comfort in earthly means, rather than resting in Your promises. Help me to remember that true peace comes only from You.

As I reflect on Saul’s departure that night, I recognize the danger of leaving Your presence without the guidance and strength we need. I implore You, Lord, to fill me with Your Holy Spirit, to renew my heart and mind. May I not leave Your sanctuary, whether it be my prayer closet, the church, or those moments I spend in Your Word, without being utterly transformed by Your love and grace.

Help me to recognize the importance of community as I walk this journey of faith. Just as Saul had servants who shared that final meal, may I surround myself with fellow believers who encourage me, pray with me, and hold me accountable in my walk with You. Let me be a source of encouragement to others, supporting them in their struggles, as iron sharpens iron.

Lord, as I pray today, I not only seek to avoid the pitfalls Saul fell into, but I also ask for Your empowerment to shine Your light wherever darkness prevails. Help me to be a beacon of hope to those who, like Saul, may be tempted to seek comfort in the wrong places. Fill my life with Your presence so that when others see me, they see You radiating through me.

In all things, may Your will be done, and may I find my sustenance and strength in You alone. In the name of Jesus, my Savior, I pray,
