A Prayer of Courage Against Giants
"Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God." - 1 Samuel 17:36

O Mighty and Everlasting God,
As I bow before You this day, my heart is filled with reverence and awe for Your eternal power and might. I come to You, Lord, meditating on the words spoken by David in the face of overwhelming odds: "Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God" (1 Samuel 17:36, KJV).
Lord, in this moment, I ask for the courage that David displayed in his youth, when he faced the fiercest of creatures—the lion and the bear—with nothing but a slingshot and faith in You. As David recalled his past victories over seemingly insurmountable beasts, remind me, O Lord, of the battles I have fought and the challenges I have overcome through Your divine strength.
Father, help me to remember that the same God who empowered David is the One who empowers me today. I seek not just physical conquests but spiritual victories over the giants I encounter in my life. These giants may take on various forms—fear, doubt, anxiety, temptation, despair—each one attempting to defy my faith and draw me away from Your path. Just as David stood firm before Goliath, I too wish to stand boldly against the challenges I face. Instill in me the confidence that comes from knowing that I am not alone; the armies of the living God are with me.
Lord, grant me the vision to see these giants, not as insurmountable foes, but as mere obstacles in the light of Your glory. Help me to focus on You, the living God, rather than on the might of these challenges. Just as David characterized Goliath as an ‘uncircumcised Philistine’—a nonbeliever who stood against the living God—may I practice discernment in recognizing those things in my life that are against Your will and purpose for me. Enable me to confront them fearlessly, with the knowledge that I carry Your name within me.
Holy Spirit, empower me with strength and resilience. Let my heart be filled with the courage to face every giant that stands before me. Rather than retreating in fear, help me to move forward in faith. Like David, may I declare the victory that is already mine through Your promises. Teach me to respond to giants, whether they be internal doubts or external pressures, with the assurance that You fight my battles. With each step I take against these giants, may it be a declaration of my faith in You, the God who has never lost a battle.
As I face my own Goliaths, guide me in prayer and supplication. Let my prayers be rooted in faith, recalling the testimonies of Your faithfulness in my life. Remind me, dear Lord, that You are a God who delivers, who saves, and who strengthens those who put their trust in You. May my heart sing praises for the victories that you will bring in and through me.
Lord, just as You were with David, I ask that You remain steadfastly by my side. Fill my heart with biblical courage, reminding me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, designed for the purpose of glorifying You. Let my life be a testament to Your saving grace and power.
I commit this prayer to You with faith and expectancy, trusting that You will equip me to face every giant in my path, celebrating the victories that come through You. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, I pray.
Amen.
