A Prayer for Humility and Submission to God’s Will
"Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:" - 1 Peter 5:5-6

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, my heart is filled with a profound sense of reverence and gratitude for Your Word, which guides my path and illuminates my spirit. I turn to the words of 1 Peter 5:5-6, where You instruct us to submit ourselves to those in authority, and to be clothed with humility. I acknowledge that You resist the proud but give grace to the humble. Lord, help me to internalize this teaching, so that I may live a life that reflects Your intentions for humility and submission.
Lord, I acknowledge that humility is often a difficult virtue to embody. In a world that celebrates self-promotion and pride, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking too highly of ourselves. Forgive me, Father, for the times I have allowed pride to creep into my heart and influence my actions. Help me to recognize when I push against authority, when I rebel against correction, or when I neglect the wisdom housed in those who have walked this path before me. Remind me daily to submit myself to the elder among me, recognizing the roles You have placed in my life to guide and nurture me.
Father, I ask that You show me how to be a servant of humility. Clothe me in humility from head to toe, so that every action I take and every word I speak is infused with gentleness and respect. Help me to navigate my relationships with grace, showing kindness to those around me. Teach me to listen readily, to honor others’ opinions, and to celebrate the strengths of my peers and elders alike.
Just as You have called me to submit to others, remind me to also be a source of encouragement and support. Show me how to be subject one to another; let my heart be open to service and caring for others, and may my eyes always seek to uplift instead of criticize. Help me to recognize the strength in community, knowing that we are better together than apart in this journey of faith.
Lord, I am also reminded of the promise that when I humble myself under Your mighty hand, You will exalt me in due time. I hold this promise close to my heart, knowing that Your timing is perfect. Help me to wait patiently for Your hand to raise me up. Teach me to trust in Your sovereign wisdom, understanding that Your plans for my life are far greater than my own. I release my anxieties and aspirations unto You, confident that as I submit to Your will, You will lead me to the fulfillment of my purpose.
In this humble posture before You, I seek to cast all my cares upon You, as You have instructed. Lord, I know that You care for me deeply, and I surrender my worries, fears, and burdens into Your capable hands. May I lean not on my understanding or efforts, but instead rely fully on Your grace and love that sustains me.
Father, I pray that as I grow in humility and submission, I may be a testament of Your grace to others. Let my life reflect Your character, drawing those around me into a deeper understanding of who You are. May I become a vessel of honor, demonstrating what it means to surrender before You and allow You to have control of every aspect of my life.
Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy and guidance. I ask all these things in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
