A Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance in Leadership
"Elihoreph and Ahiah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder." - 1 Kings 4:3

O Lord God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, I come before You with a humble heart, reflecting on the profound wisdom and order You established in the days of King Solomon. As recorded in 1 Kings 4:3, where it is mentioned, "Elihoreph and Ahiah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder," You appointed individuals with specific roles that contributed to the greatness of Solomon’s reign. I thank You for Your divine order and structure in all aspects of leadership, for You have shown us the importance of having wise counsel and skilled servants in positions of trust.
Lord, I come before You, acknowledging that You are the source of all wisdom. Just as Elihoreph and Ahiah served as scribes, helping to document and preserve the wisdom of Solomon's reign, I pray for individuals in our day who are called to serve in such capacities. I ask that You raise up men and women who can accurately record and communicate the truths of Your Word. Help them to be diligent, attentive, and faithful in their work, so that their contributions may lead to a deeper understanding of Your heart and purposes.
Heavenly Father, I also reflect on Jehoshaphat, the recorder, and the role of those who keep accurate records. It is essential that we not only understand Your wisdom but also make it known and remembered through generations. I pray for all recorders in various fields, whether in government, the Church, or our communities. Grant them the ability to document events, lessons, and revelations in a way that is honest, enlightening, and edifying to all who read. May their records stand as testimony to Your faithfulness and truth throughout time.
As we seek leaders in our homes, churches, workplaces, and communities, I implore You, gracious Lord, to guide us in our selection. Just as Solomon surrounded himself with wise men and skilled workers, help us to surround ourselves with people of virtue and integrity. May we be equipped to discern leaders who will uphold justice, promote peace, and prioritize the well-being of those they serve. Instill in us a yearning for leaders who will seek Your righteousness above all, as Solomon sought wisdom above riches.
Father, I understand that in our pursuit of wisdom and guidance, we must also cultivate our own hearts. Therefore, I pray that You would develop in us the attributes necessary for effective leadership. Help us to be humble, teachable, and steadfast in truth. May the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance—be evident in our lives as we lead others. Let us remember that true leadership is serving others, just as Christ exemplified for us.
As I bring this prayer to a close, I ask for a pouring out of Your Spirit upon all leaders, scribed and recorders alike, that they may be endowed with insight and clarity of thought. Enable them to navigate the complexities of their roles with grace and discernment, ensuring that the legacies they establish honor You and enlighten those who follow. I pray for Your wisdom to reign in every decision we face, that we may acknowledge You in all our ways and trust that You will direct our paths, just as You ordained the structure of governance in Israel.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
