Heavenly Father,

As I come before You in prayer, I am reminded of the wisdom and the decisions faced by King Rehoboam, as recorded in 1 Kings 14:27: "And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house." Lord, this scripture serves as a profound reflection on the choices made by those in positions of authority and power. I ask You to guide my heart and mind as I seek to understand the weight of leadership and the responsibility it entails.

Lord, I acknowledge that leadership is not just about authority but about servanthood. Rehoboam, in his decision to create brasen shields instead of the gold ones that were once a symbol of his father Solomon's glory, reminds me that wise choices are sometimes not what they appear to be in the eyes of man. Help me to recognize the importance of discernment in my own leadership roles—be it at home, in my community, or in other aspects of life. Let me reflect on the intent behind my decisions and to seek the good of those I lead rather than merely my own interests.

I pray for courage, Lord, as I navigate through challenges and temptations that may come my way. Just as Rehoboam had guards at the door of his house to protect him, may I also surround myself with wise counsel—individuals who are able to speak truth into my life and guide me toward righteousness. Help me to be open to wisdom from others and to recognize that true strength lies in humility and cooperation, and not solely in one’s own knowledge or skill.

Father, the world is filled with moments where we are tested. It is often easier to make decisions for convenience or to demonstrate power rather than to choose the path of righteousness and integrity. Please fortify my resolve so that in moments of temptation, I remember the kind of leader You have called me to be. Help me to choose the path that honors You, even if it appears weaker in the eyes of those around me.

In addition to courage, I pray for wisdom. Rehoboam made choices that may have seemed practical in his time, but ultimately, they were also rooted in fear and a desire to protect himself. Grant me discernment when faced with difficult choices that impact not just my life but the lives of others. Help me to be grounded in Your Word and in prayer, so that every decision I make can glorify You and serve as a model for those who look to me as a leader.

Jesus, You are the ultimate example of a servant leader. You did not come to be served but to serve. Let this truth permeate my very being. Let every encounter I have, every decision I make, and every challenge I face reflect Your love and grace. Help me to find balance in my leadership—to be strong, yet gentle; bold, yet considerate; decisive, yet open to correction.

Lord, as I ponder the imagery of brasen shields, I am reminded that while they may have been a substitute for gold, they still served a purpose in protecting the kingdom. Teach me to see the value in what is often overlooked and to appreciate the layers of leadership beyond mere appearances. May I strive for authenticity and integrity as I navigate my own responsibilities.
