A Prayer for Detachment from the World
"Sure, here is the requested verse in King James Version (KJV): Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." - 1 John 2:15-17

O Heavenly Father,
In Your magnificent presence, I kneel with a heart brimming with desire for purity and clarity of purpose. Your Holy Word reminds us in 1 John 2:15-17 KJV, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." O God, let these words sink deep into my spirit, unraveling the subtle threads of worldly affection that may have woven themselves into my desires.
Lord, I confess that often I am entangled in the allure of the world; its pleasures and passions call to me, whispering promises of joy and fulfillment. But as I seek Your face in prayer, I realize that these are mere mirages, void of the everlasting joy that comes from You alone. Grant me discernment, dear Lord, to see the fleeting nature of worldly treasures. Help me to willingly cast aside the appetites of the flesh which tantalize my senses, for Your word states, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
Father, I ask for Your grace to resist these enticing lusts that attempt to anchor my soul to vanity. During moments of temptation, remind me by Your Holy Spirit that these desires are empty and lead me away from the depths of Your love. May I find my rest in You, my true source of satisfaction, rather than in the transient pleasures of this life. Allow my eyes to be fixed upon eternal joys, turning away from what brings only superficial delight and pain, for I know that the things of the world eventually pass away, leaving only bitterness and regret.
As I navigate this life with its chaos and distraction, help me to center my life around You. Show me how to use the gifts and blessings You’ve bestowed upon me, not just for my gain, but as a means to pour out love and service to others. Teach me to balance my responsibilities and joys without succumbing to worldliness – to entertain my heart and mind with things that glorify You. Plant within me a spirit of stewardship that seeks to use my resources, time, and energy to fulfill Your will.
Lord, instill in my heart a profound understanding that "the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." Oh, how comforting it is to know that doing Your will leads to everlasting life! Encourage me in times of discouragement, reminding me that even when the world seems to crash around me, my purpose remains intact in You. Help me to have an eternal perspective, seeking first Your kingdom and righteousness, knowing that as I do this, all other things shall be added unto me.
I desire to abide in Your love, and I pray to remain in Your presence daily, for only therein shall I find true peace and joy. May my life reflect Your teachings and embody Your love so that others may see and desire the hope and peace that You alone provide.
Thank You, Lord, for the guidance of Your Word and the assurance that, with each step taken in faith, I can overcome the seductions of this world. May my love for You overflow, pushing out every ounce of attachment to the fleeting things of this earth. Let me bear the fruit of good works, glorifying Your name until that glorious day when I am united with You forever.
In Your matchless name, I pray,
Amen.

1 John 2:15-17 - "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."
