A Prayer of Confession and Cleansing
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." - 1 John 1:9

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a humble and contrite heart, recognizing that I stand in need of Your grace and mercy. Just as Your Word in 1 John 1:9 reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness," I cling to this promise with every bit of my being. Lord, it is in Your faithfulness that I find my hope; it is in Your justice that I discover relief from the weight of guilt and shame that burdens my spirit.
Father, I acknowledge my shortcomings and the sins that have separated me from You. I confess the pride that swells in my heart, the anger that has clouded my judgment, and the unkind words that have slipped from my tongue. I lay down before You all my transgressions, whether they be actions, thoughts, or intentions that have not aligned with Your holy will. I ask for Your forgiveness, trusting in Your character that you do not remain angry forever but delight in showing mercy to those who turn back to You.
As I confess, I feel the heaviness of my sins; I recognize the ways they have hindered my relationship with You and marred my witness to others. Yet, in this moment, I am reminded that Your promise is true. You are faithful; You are just. Thank You, Lord, for the assurance that no sin is beyond Your capacity to forgive. Even when I feel unworthy, I know that Your blood, shed for me on Calvary, stands as a testament to Your love and willingness to cleanse me from all unrighteousness.
In my times of trial and testing, when the enemy seeks to remind me of my past and throw my sins in my face, I declare Your truth over my life. I take hold of the promise that through genuine confession, I am not a slave to condemnation but a recipient of grace. Lord, wash me with Your cleansing power; create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). Remove any residue of sin that lingers in my life, and fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit.
I praise You, God, for the blood of Jesus that purifies us from all sin. I thank You for the hope and joy that comes from knowing that when I confess, You bring healing and restoration. You do not just let go of my sins, but You actively work to cleanse me. Help me to believe in this cleansing, not only in my spirit but in how it transforms my life; help me to reflect Your love and grace to those around me.
Moreover, Lord, I commit to not only confessing my sins but also learning from them. Teach me the lessons that accompany repentance. Help me to grow in my faith and to break the cycles of sin that have ensnared me. Lead me away from temptation and toward the path of righteousness for Your name's sake. May my journey of faith motivate me to extend grace and forgiveness to others, mirroring the forgiveness I have so generously received from You.
Finally, as I move forward, I pray for strength to guard my heart against future sin. May I remain vigilant and anchored in Your Word, always coming to You in prayer and seeking Your presence. I trust that Your spirit will guide me and that Your truth will set me free.
With great anticipation, I await Your continued work in my life. Thank You for Your faithfulness and justice, and for offering me forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness. I lean upon Your grace anew each day as I strive to walk in the light of Your love.
In the precious name of Jesus, who is my Savior,
Amen.
