An illustration conveying a profound message from Christian teachings. It features a diverse group of disciples, some standing in the background, others at the forefront. Often, practical gender equality is an implicit part of Christian teachings and hence there's a mix of male and female disciples. A solitary figure is trying to lead them, denoting denial of self and the act of taking up the cross. The scene should reflect the paradox of life and death from the spoken lines, and also the imagery of worldly riches contrasted with spiritual loss. This image should be executed in a watercolor style, echoing respect and devotion to the religion. The image should have no text or words.

Mark 8:31-36 He called the crowd with his disciples and said to them, “If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
