Rebekah’s anguish arises from her awareness of the repercussions that her son Jacob’s choices could have on their family's identity and future. The daughters of Heth, descendants of Canaan, represented not just a cultural and spiritual threat to her family but also a deeply personal fear of losing the lineage of faith that she held so dearly. Rebekah’s experience leads us to reflect on the importance of alignment with God’s will in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Scripture invites us to commit our ways to the Lord (Proverbs 16:3). This means surrendering our worries—like those Rebekah felt—and seeking divine direction.
